ceramics on a boxster (pic)
Here we go again Beating up the Boxster
Well....I have a Boxster and had an 02 996 Speed Yellow and it got loads of looks...bought a boxster and am giving it to my son and deciding on a 02 C4s or TT. I buy cars to enjoy driving not for people to drool on ot...but the common bloke out there thinks as much of a boxster as a 996....they can't tell the difference.....I can compliments all day on my box and got them on my C2 as well.....the car enthusiast and few more can tell the difference not everyone can......Though I am a big 996 fan ..the Boxster is fun to drive.....well balanced and handles better than the C2....... anycase the P Super Car is a Mid Engine and 2 seater car not rear engine and four seats
BTW I am also planning to install a 3.6 in my boxster.....and also get a 996 again...both are great cars but the greatest is the C-GT and Ben your video was awesome......I was at carlsbad in my box with the OC-LA guys but left early as I had an open house......

I know the car is supposed to be for you and "f" what other people think. But is sure is nice having people drool over the 996. Spending 70K on a boxster and people not giving it a second glance would be really disapointing.

My point was that no matter how fast it is...it's still a boxster. Let's face it, we spend more time pulling up to the valet stand than we do at the track. So the extra performance really can't be felt on a daily basis, but you sure do have to look at it everyday.
Most people don't give the boxster any street credibility. It's usually considered a "starter porsche" (my case) or a "chick car". Most that haven't actually driven it, don't have a lot of respect for the boxster.
I enjoyed mine. It was a nice car. Just can't see spending 40-50K on a boxster and then pumping another 15-20K to juice up the motor and brakes. In the end, when it's parked, you've still got a boxster. I just assume go buy a 996, which is what I did. Damn sure looks a hell of lot better too.

If dog dung (no pun intended) was is vogue, people would be smearing it all over themselves.
If anyone worries about others drooling, then they simply needed some reassurance that what they made or bought was the right decision. When the fad is gone, so will be that particular possession. When the turbo was scarce it sold for 50-100K over. When they became available they sold for under msrp.
Sounds like sheep,
I mean human mentality to me. On the other side of the coin, most of the 996tt owners or want to be owners couldn't use the stock power if their life depended on it. That's exactly why they don't use it. Which gets back to the point of the real usage for any hot car............ status.
There simply isn't enough qualified drivers for any more power. It's the old supply and demand theory. In this case there are far more hot cars available then there are hot drivers. Therefore, the depression in hot car values.
If this Boxter has been properly sorted, I'm sure it would embarrass 99% of all the exotics out there. That is unless it was being evaluated while it was standing still.

This is not intended to be a flame.

I don't buy the street cred arguement for anywhere except South Florida (miami) and LA. The reason is because you rarely see another Porsche in any other parts of this country. In those 2 areas, however, you see so many exotics that a Boxster does become ordinary.
This board creates a major vacuum where we all assume that the rest of the country is like LA or Miami. Most American familes have 2 vehicles, not 6. And any Porsche is not only a rare sight but considered a true exotic.

yep, it's crazy. when i lived in central fla, you could go weeks without seeing a newer 911 (993/996) and days without seeing a boxster. down here in s. cal, nick and i pulled over in the CGT behind my wife's cayenne (she forgot something i had with me so we met her) and in the 30 to 60 seconds we were there, another cayenne went by as did two boxsters :-) this was out of a total of maybe 4 or 5 cars that went by during that time! including our two cars, that was 5 pcars in less than a minute and something like 80%+ of the cars there at that time.

it's insane. I drive down the street through newport and you'll see a dozen or so at the first few lights.
you guys are full of **** if the appearance of you car doesn't matter
these cars are status symbols to a certain degree whether you want to admit it or not.
if you bought a car stricly on performance bang for the buck, appearance be damned....we'd all be driving evo's and wrx's and corvettes. actually though, the new vette is kind of nice looking.
look at how heavily the people on this forum (including myself) bling their cars out. you can't see wheels, wings, and bumpers while you're driving
my point is, once again, if you're gonna have a 70K car, it ought to at least look like a 70K car.
i don't know what's like in other parts of the country, but boxsters are very very common here. i probably see at least ten a day. you can get one used for under 25K now. i see kids driving them all the time. 996's are pretty common too. Probably see at least 5 a day.
I didn't get the carrera because of what other people think. i got it because i'm a big fan. I love the way it looks and drives. It's a bonus that most people admire the 911. You'd be lying if it didn't make you feel good to have someone compliment your car.
I regards to CJV's comments about power, more is better. You can be the worst driver on the planet but you can still have a lot of fun mashing the pedal in a straight line
I've owned a boxster, now a 996, and I've driven a stage 4 turbo. If I had the money I'd buy a turbo cab in a second. The power rush is addicting.
to each his own. if you got the money, I say go for it and dump a pile of cash into it. sounds the like owner has the money. me, i'd rather just buy a carrera. and that's what i did
i'm at least realistic that most of our time behind the wheel is stuck in traffic
You can talk performance all day long, but how much time is actually spent on the track or on traffic free curvy roads. Might as well look good while you're waiting for the jam to clear.
I'm not trying to start a boxster vs. 996 debate. I had'em both. I got tired of the boxster very quick and the boxster can't hold a candle to the 996 in the looks department. Seems like a waste of money to me for a street boxster, unless of course you're gonna pull the plates off and make it a dedicated track car.

i thought this was an entusiast's board...too many of you sound like automobile metro sexuals here! i have never been a big fan of the boxster, but if it had a gt3 (or even better gt3rsr) engine in it, track tires and susp and brake mods, i don't give a f**k what it looked like...better yet, i would like it better if it was beat up! oh yeah, and no silly body kits either.just a real roll bar.coil overs and big sways, mscs's on kenesis or bbs or fiske and all dented up and oxidized. THAT would be a boxster i would drive.
