ceramics on a boxster (pic)
With that kind of money invested, why not just get the real deal?
I'm sure it's fun, but it's still a boxster at the end of the day. I can say that, I had one

what would the real deal be?
I bet this thing would be more fun then a 911 IMO. But I haven't driven a GT3/TT/GT2, just base 911's. I thought the boxster S was more fun to toss around then the 911

I am sure that it handles great and is a blast to drive. To say it is more fun to toss around would be a matter of opinion. It is my opinion as it is many others that older air cooled 911's cant be beat for fun factor. Nothing like hanging the tail out on a rear engine car.
For a point and shoot car, a Boxter with more power has got to be a very user friendly track car.
One of my next Porsche's to add to my collection will without a doubt be a late model flatsix shoehorned into a 356.

I have owned/own all three (air cooled and non and a Boxster.) By far, my 996 is the most fun out of the three. I was "" this close to getting a 3.6L for my Boxster S...I opted out for the 996. I only slightly regret that...actually, come to think of it, pre SC, I did...I don't now.

My point was that no matter how fast it is...it's still a boxster. Let's face it, we spend more time pulling up to the valet stand than we do at the track. So the extra performance really can't be felt on a daily basis, but you sure do have to look at it everyday.
Most people don't give the boxster any street credibility. It's usually considered a "starter porsche" (my case) or a "chick car". Most that haven't actually driven it, don't have a lot of respect for the boxster.
I enjoyed mine. It was a nice car. Just can't see spending 40-50K on a boxster and then pumping another 15-20K to juice up the motor and brakes. In the end, when it's parked, you've still got a boxster. I just assume go buy a 996, which is what I did. Damn sure looks a hell of lot better too.
I know the car is supposed to be for you and "f" what other people think. But is sure is nice having people drool over the 996. Spending 70K on a boxster and people not giving it a second glance would be really disapointing.
