I was instructing at Mid-Ohio last weekend.

There were two associated events where my luck helped me out. First was on the way home, when my tow vehicle threw the alternator belt about 150 miles from home. I shut off all things electrical and waited as long as possible to turn on the headlights. The dash lights started flashing and background electrical systems (airbags, etc) started failing just as I pulled into my driveway.

Second one I found out about this weekend. I had a rear tire that was losing a pound or two of air between sessions on the last day. I thought it might have a nail in it, so I took it to the shop to get it fixed. Turned out the rim was cracked (see photo). AFAIK, I did not hit anything with it, and barely even touched a rumble strip all weekend. I've had that turbo twist rim for at least 4 years. It's a genuine 996 part.

Hope I didn't use up all of my luck in one weekend!

Wow, well at least the weekend wasn't ruined or any fenders! Time for some CCW's! It's a safety thing tell your wife. That's how you got the brakes, right? :-)

 

Actually, the brakes came when I stripped a bleed screw in the front caliper. OTOH, I traded the tow vehicle today on a new one. Safety thing, right!

I'm going to try to find one turbo twist wheel.

I remember that technique - strip the screw and break the "bad" news to the wife!

Alternator belts are very unsafe like that. Good to trade it!
