Time to re-think 996TT pricing
It's a double edged sword. They are collectable and will become investment grade, provided owners don't drive them. Miles kill values of any car and the 3TT is no exception. They will be too valuable to enjoy. Might as well own a Ferrari.
true to a point...there comes a certain point of time lapse where the cars become so old that full restorations are done on most of the ones still remaining and at that point the car is valued on quality of restoration instead of original miles. Although it is certain that a car "is only new and orignal once" this does seem only to apply to unrestored examples with orignal paint, body, interior and numbers matching componentry. The irony of it is that over many years even if the car sees say 10K per year that will not raise an eyebrow at auction, there sill always be value in the original unrestored examples in many cases moreso than those that have been restored. So as long as the owner keeps the car for a long time, keeps it clean and relatively original, he or she can enjoy the car each year just as well.
I don't think that given the relative depreciation curves of cars that were similarly priced when new, 996tt owners have much to complain about. Yeah, the cars have taken a hit, but really, they bottomed out last year around this time and have actually come back a bit, considering they are a year older. You also have to figure that the pcars are more of a justifiable sports car to most buyers, so they tend to not lose demand as drastically as other "toy" cars during rough economic times.
Given that the base 996tt market is low 40's/high 30's at this time, I don't see them really dipping much more in the next 5-8 years - drive 'em if you got 'em.
Similar trend with the e39 M5 - they dropped pretty hard to mid-20's, but even clapped ones sell at 18-22.

Far from an expert here so take this for what it is worth.
I bought my TT at 45K. I haven't seen any turbo on sale no matter what year sell for less than 15K if it was running. If I keep the car running, totally original, and sell for 15K, I have just driven a 30K car with a priceless enjoyment factor!
Or I could have bought a 38K Evo or STI?

I agree thats why i will not look at offers under 60k for my car. If some one wants to build one go ahead. I sweat to make the Money and i am not loosing any sleep if i dont sell it.
I will store it and drive it when i want to go beat up on a Vette or at GTrrrrrrrrrrr!
