$10k burning a hole in your pocket ?
$10k burning a hole in your pocket ?
I joined this site to educate myself on the 996tt and appreciate all tech you guys contribute.
I am still getting a handle on the mods you guys are are doing and trying to determine which direction I will take with my project.
So I figured I should ask you guys directly.
If you had a stock just passed PPI lowish milage 2004 6sp 99tt cab and $10k burning a hole in your pocket what mods would you do to the car ?
Would you spend the money on power ? Handling ? Reliability ? Appearance ?

10k can do all of the above
spend $4-5k on go fast mods (chip, exhaust, short shifter, diverter valves, wastegates) ((you dont need to buy a brand new exhaust or short shifter, pick up something used for 1/4 the price)
spend $1000 on springs and an alignment.
spend $3-4k on wheels and tires (or spend 2k on an awesome set of used wheels)
spend the other $1-2k on tints, integrated radar/laser jammer, and an attorney on retainer (not kidding)

You seem to be a pretty handy guy from your other posts. With 10k get some nice used hybrid turbos, exhaust, DV's, a custom tune and some rims. You will need a new clutch. If you can get the gt2 clutch hydro conversion as well. If you DIY all but the tune you can do all of that for about 10k.

First of all, what is the intended use of your car? Street only, track only, if a combination, what percentage for each? There are endless mods but with only $10,000 you need to narrow your focus first.
I am doing my best to avoid the track as I can't afford another racing addiction. ( currently spend all my time and money desert racing. As in Baja 1000 )
In that case I would say the best bang for the buck would be ECU flash, exhaust, and sway bars, short shifter if yours is stock. Better coilovers would be a plus but maybe you should drive the car for awhile in order to decide that for yourself. You won't need a clutch for an ECU tune unless you do burnouts all the time, then you will.
Hello,
Try Evo State 1 (Tuning, DV, Spark plugs and v-flow) or Evo 550 which is all the same plus Sports Exhaust. Add in a nice set of used Rims and a quick suspension upgrade and there you go.

A good set of coilovers and a good flash. Also do RemoteTop and SmartTop since you'll be opening and closing the top all the time... you don't want people seeing you holding the button... just one touch. Plus using the remote to open and close the top is impressive when people are watching you.

you race the trophy trucks?
Weekend toy. I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains near lake tahoe so nothing but mile after mile of twisty mountain roads. Put it this way..... All the car and bike clubs come up here on the weekends to drive. ( and they don't even know the good roads ..lol )

Which exhaust if you don't mind me asking?
of course if you go the other way you could come home without a title to your 996TT cab
...either way you wont have to worry about mods when the trip is over...win/win
1993 I was in Vegas for a desert race. had a nice winning streak on the tables one night and the next day walked into Gaudin Porsche dealer. Bought myself a new 964 C2 cab.
.( for the record. I didn't win the whole purchase amount... I had to kick in 20k of my own. but it was still an epic win )
anyhow, not quite that wild with my money anymore. so I think I will stick with my plan for the time being.
