Pulled Up Next To a GT-R Today
I have several friends with the gtr and i must say that I like them. With that said I would like to have one in my stable of cars to drive in the near future. I think that this car has the same production and demand pattern as a acura nsx but the power potential of a toyota supra. What does this make as a car....something very special. My 2 cents.
Well...I'm 40, my buddy that bought my last GT-R is 38, and my very good friend who owns 2 GT-Rs, a modded '09 and a stock 2012, is 44 (he also owns a TT Gallardo). Heck, even the guy I bought my white GT-R from is in his late 30's. Not necessarily old, but we certainly aren't youngsters either.
I think the older I get, the less important the marque is and the more important the capabilities become. That's my idea of maturing.

Geez, I wish I was only 40! lol
I agree, capabilities trump the marque, at least for me, too.
There are so many appealing cars available, sometimes it is difficult to make a clear choice.
There are certain reasons why I might choose one over the other, but I appreciate them all for their individualities.
A friend of mine has a GTR and a large number of other exotics (GT3 RS, R8 V10, Gallardo, etc.) He drives his GTR daily, including in winter, and a says he likes the car a lot. I asked how it differs from the 997 Turbo and he said that while the GTR is bigger and heavier it is just as fast and it has a really big trunk that he can carry large suitcases that the 911 wouldn't take. However, he prefers his GT3 RS for the track however.

I like the GT-R -- but I have to admit it's more for the performance than the looks for me. All personal preference -- but there are too many sharp lines, angles and corners for my own tastes. I can also see people arguing about the electronics / latest technologies vs. a raw driving machine. Both have their supporters and again, it may be more about personal tastes. The GPS-based top speed limiter in the Japanese version I heard about is a crack up though

.(Except Scott's car - his may redefine space and time).
[QUOTE=jaspergtr;3199492 That's why Nissan denounced "Launch Control" - Japan does not allow it. Now they call it "R-mode start". This allows 0-60 in 2.8 secs. Not bad for a $90k car.

Too Cool!

Let me share my unbiased opinion. I have a 2012 GT-R and my 996 Turbo (mods in my signature). The GT-R 0-120 would destroy my turbo. From a roll it would be a different story but the car is a marvel really. The GT-R feels much more planted than the 996 at high speeds. I think I need some additional aero mods on mine though. I hit 153 on the back straight at Road Atlanta and the front tires felt like they were off of the ground! Nice to have variety in life, I appreciate them all. My buddy has a 996 GT3 and I love that thing! I would take that in a minute for the track.

Having owned two 996s (a 996TT and a GT2), I can tell you that you are correct that the GT-R is much more planted at speed. The GT-R's ride, however, is stiffer than both the stock suspension on my GT2 was as well as the aftermarket suspenson on my 996TT. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but the ride might come as a bit of shock to someone who's never been in a GT-R before.
I have been fighting the GTR bug for a loooooooong time. I have never had a problem with the way the car looks, I think it looks good actually (altho not as good as the GT variants of the 911). My reason is the non manual transmission and lack of "feel"... although these are also the reasons why the car is so stable and quick. Having been in a few GTR's now, most recently this past weekend in a Switzer P800 (first Switzer car I've been in), I'm sold on the platform. Everything in the car was so easy to go fast. Doing highway pulls in Mexico, the car just pulls and keep pulling and this was on 91 octane! The car easily left behind bolt on Z06's, stock 458 etc... The owner of this car uses it for the track so it's not set up for highway pulls with huge aero in the rear etc... but I was thoroughly impressed. Wife was calling me a traitor all weekend, lolol. Just wanted to share my experience.
HI,True,,,But it does feel good when you do not have to explain that the lower status vehicle is in fact a Stellar vehicle, to normal individuals who do not know any better,,,But they only know name recognition...Please do not get me wrong But sometimes it feels good when others ,not in the know, just do not know any better.......lol.....Its all good......
