Pulled Up Next To a GT-R Today
When I sold my Gallardo I wanted to get into something subtle and more low key as I get sick of the attention (and some other things) from the Gallardo. Boy was I mistaken. LOL. This car doesn't attract the attention my Gallardo did, but it sure did a heck a lot more than any other car I have owned (Vets, Vipers, etc.) That was a BIG surprise to me.
As fas as looks, yes purely subjective. I like the masculine and powerful look of the GTR. And the performance, tranny, and almost everything else makes up for the little that I don't like about the exterior.
Oh, and BTW, stay tuned for vids of a 900 HP GTR vs a 700 HP 996 TT very soon. =)

GTR is a great performer I've had students on track with them and they handle well and accelete quickly, you can really feel the weight and the large size of the car though, they are huge and very wide, more than one would expect.
I personally like the performance but think the 911 looks more refined and flows better, the GTR is very JDM it fits for the style that it is...Porsche has an iconic shape and is unmistakable in it's lineage and history, albeit an originally flawed design. As for interior GTR has too much going on...I think less is more personally, so I prefer the interior of my GT2, it's a pure drivers car with a very no-frills interior, my race car is even more spartan...outside of a tach. a shift indicator, and DAQ system nothing else is really needed.

And I'm so glad it has all that crap inside (standard). If it didn't, I wouldn't have gotten one (honestly). It is definitely not for purists. Those who want a race car, can buy an Ariel Atom. I, personally, prefer body panels, bluetooth, heated seats, dual Sat/Nav screens, etc...
I like all the stuff you mentioned too...just in a 4 door sedan or truck/SUV (like Range Rover) ...
I believe Mufflerman nailed it. I too have spent some time behinfd the wheel of a GT-R. If you drive it for more than a few miles, especially pushing the car a couple of things ring true. First, it is an amazing piece and does set a new benchmark in many ways. The other key thing you will notice is that it feels like a rider's vs. a driver's car, meaning, you can't help but feel the car is driving you. I felt like I was on a killer rollercoaster. Again, amazing but kind of along for the ride. Each car has its place and I am excited the GT-R is here.
Fair enough... The GT-R does have a lot of SUV qualities. (You can actually shop for tires in the SUV section of tirerack)

Take a GT-R to your local road course; turn everything to 'R' except VDC which you turn to 'off'. Then drive the snot out of it. Try telling me then that this car "drives itself", or that "the driver is along for the ride", or that the experience is "anodyne". Anyone who makes those kinds of BS statements about the GT-R driven rapidly on track has never come close to exploring what the car, with a good driver, can do.
It is an incredible package that let's be honest, destroys 98% of any Porsche variant on a road course, and that's in OEM configuration. With a few modifications, the car is blisteringly fast with the only achilles heel being susceptibility to overheat the transmission and perhaps the engine oil towards the end of a run session. These issues can be corrected, but should have been addressed by Nissan themselves.
Look, I love Porsches having owned two; (a '97 C2S and a '02 TT), but the GT-R has raised the bar very high. Kudos to Nissan for producing this car for less than $90K.
Bish
I always thought that being a "fill in the blank kind of guy" was the sign of a guy who gets what he wants, not just what he's handed.
Although tastes can mature and change.
Blondes for me BTW.

Here is a video of cadillac vs gtr: posting up vids of marque vs marque is spinning to win an argument. So this is to counter the gtr video fans. I personally find them fun to watch and thats all.
