Torn Coolant Hose *sigh*

Also, I edited my post and removed the statement about negligence by Barrier Porsche. I have no proof that they did anything wrong (yet), so it's not right for me to accuse them without actually knowing if they messed up or not. Regardless, I live in northern Virginia; the previous owner lived in WA state. I had a PPI done there and work was done on the car by techs at Barrier Porsche before I purchased it.
So, driving to those other shops is out of the question. Originally Posted by NineElevenLover

I had no idea where you were from. Virginia?! ,,, who lives over there!? Update your sig, slacker!
Glad you got it worked out! New hoses! YEA!!Quote:
EXTREMELY unfunny if you're directly behind said GT3 in a turn and you spin into the Armco because of the coolant spewing onto the asphalt.Originally Posted by pumalex
i have seen a gt3 at the track do the same thing, pretty impressive but very unfunny.

Got the parts... ready to get this done.
Should I even bother attempting this without draining the coolant? I wonder if I lost enough so that I won't have to deal with a raging torrent of violet fluid gushing from the metal pipes when I disconnect the rubber hoses.

You will get some out of the hose anyway so you probably do not need to bother draining unless it has not been drained regularly. You may want to replace the hose from the waterpump to the coolant reservoir as well. Make sure the clips lock into place for the hoses to insure they do not pop off and bleed the system well.
Wow, this passenger side hose does NOT want to come off. The driver's side hose slides right off with ease, on both ends. The passenger side hose came off the motor just as easily, but the other end is extremely tight. I've twisted with vice grips and pulled with every bit of my strength, all to no avail. It's almost as if the rubber o-ring is binding up inside there.
Fun!
Fun!
I had the same problem with mine. I ended up placing the tip of a small screwdriver in the opening where the clip contacts the knub on the metal portion of the hose and pushed it slightly while pulling on the hose. You may want to put a little vaseline or silicone grease on the new o-ring to insure it does not get pinched on reassembly - might make it easier to remove the next time.
bro sorry to hear what happened ... let me know how the coolant hoses work out...going to C&C this wknd? man this thread has me a little worried ...gotta have my 3 coolant hoses looked at...inspected for signs of needing replaced prior to a failure...are there any?

Did the new hoses come with the O rings installed? I looked in the PET catalog and it shows an O ring with a separate part number (99610680211) but it didn't make it clear if those are just replacement O rings for the ones that come installed on the new hoses or if those have to be purchased in addition to the hoses. It is my understanding that the upper and lower hoses do NOT come with an o-ring (I think the breather hose might come with one, but I'm not sure). I'm in the process of replacing my radiator, and I bought the radiator plus new o-rings, but I'm not planning on replacing the hoses.

I'm not sure what you mean by upper and lower hoses. The hoses on question in this thread are on the left and right side on the back of the motor and the O rings are clearly visible in the pictures of the busted hose. I ended up ordering 4 of them anyway just in case I need them since they were only about 2 bucks a piece. However, my guess is the hoses will come with the O rings.Originally Posted by tbarcelo

Yeah, I misread - that hose looks just like the upper/lower hoses at the front of the car going in and out of the radiator (I didn't realize the torn ones in this thread were from the back of the car). Nonetheless, they are all exactly the same make-up ... o-rings and spring retainer clips are a separate part number from the hose.

If that's the case than I'm glad I ordered the O rings. I'll chime in on Friday once I pick up the hoses. Thx.Originally Posted by tbarcelo
