Wheel choice

While I understand wheels for our 996tts is a highly personal choice, I would appreciate some feedback about members opinions regarding wheel choice. I want 19", something light (not interested in track), and high quality. Don't necessarily care about name brands, just the quality. I have a black on black TT. Color is of secondary importance, as I could always powder coat the wheels. Thank you guys.

If you must go with a 19" (I'd stay with 18" personally), my preference would be the BBS CH-R.

Thanks Paul.
Why do you prefer 18"? To be honest, I like 19" only for aesthetic reasons.

Ride quality, handling... California has stopped repairing roads...

To me, there's nothing better than a nice set of wheels in GT2 widths (with correct suspension of course)

Case in point-

Wheel choice is of course a personal matter nonetheless you may classify wheels into different groups depending on price, use, looks, etc.

First I'm going to show my choice, here:

HRE's in "18

Is this the best choice?

well for less than half I could have had some OZ Superleggera's or for about half the HRE's some BBS CH and perhaps my own personal choice at the moment a set of GT3 RS 997 MkI wheels, but any of these choices would have to be in "19 and I needed "18's.

In the "18 range the choice came down to two wheels, BBS LM's or the HRE's you see in the pic, the bigest advantage of the HRE's is your choice of offsets, custom finishing and local servicing.

My personal needs cornered me into "18's, roads in Mexico are just two notches above terrible and enough reason to ride in a 4X4 suspension with "18's.

You may find from cheap wheels that are not even safe, to some that may do the job to decent wheels to expensive ones, choice comes down to each individual but I recommend you stay in the decent bracket, OZ, BBS and my personal choice 997 MkI GT3 RS wheels that look the part on our beloved 996TT's. You may also jump into something custom from HRE or something exotic like the BBS R88 (or something like that I don't the remember the BBS model).

Champions do look the part as well, TechArt's, Ruf's, are excellent choices as well.

Don't forget to show pics of your 996TT with the new wheels

18's have many benefits:
1. Lighter
2. Less expensive
3. Many more tire options
4. Tires are less expensive
5. Better ride quality
6. Better performance due to all of the above.

One consideration would be Tire cost runs about $100 less each for the 18's

Mine came with 3pc 19". I've lost tires and bent the inner barrels on them several time. They look fantastic but the street takes it toll. Tire sizes are more limited and expensive.

Take a look at the Forgestar wheels?

They are flow formed/rotary forged wheels which give them similar weight and strength properties of fully forged wheels at a fraction of the cost

The F14s are one of our most popular wheels, and we've had a number of Porsche customers who have been very happy with them.

Here are some pictures of them installed on various Porsches.

Feel free to contact me with any questions!

Despite being a sucka for mesh wheels these forgestars look like they came out of a civic... despite not knowing its qualities and characteristics they simply don't check somehow... although there is a photo around of a SY 996TT with lots of aero stuff that looks quite decent on these wheels otherwise my instinc says to better stay at a distance from these forgestars or what ever they are called... no pun intended just my thoughts.

Everyone is trying to get into the wheel business with new technology catch phrases like "semi solid forged" or "flow formed/rotary forged" with the same strength of forged at half the price. I don't think any of them have the independent metallurgic specification to back this up on a comparison basis with manufacturers of real forged wheels.

I went with BBS RS-GT from Tirerack in 19" size. No issues with the road and ride is not significantly different as compared to stock. MI roads are worse the CA roads, just got back from the Bay area and Sacramento and your roads were pristine in comparison.
