Advise on selling a car

Moving to Hawaii in a month and unfortunately Im going to need to sell my turbo before getting out there. I own a 2002 Black 911 Turbo with 35100 miles on it with ECU flash, exhaust, and aftermarket wheels. This is the first high end performance car Ive ever had to sell.

Looking at similar cars for sale on here, autotrader, and dupont, Ive seen many of them selling for around $45-50k and thought that was a good starting point.

Went to a dealership yesterday and asked them about it and they offered low $30s. I know its expected to low ball at first, but that low? Any advise or what I should look at doing? Don't really want to get anything less than $40 for it. Thanks.

List it here in the FS section and post it on your local CL. If you car is in pristine condition, needs nothing, passes PPI, etc., my guess is that it should fetch $43-45K.

I may be able to help with the wheels....post some pics. I could maybe even do an exchange for stock ones + money.

Thanks for the advise. Kind of reluctant to put the car in the classifieds because I don't want to deal w idiots who just want to joy ride the car but if it nets me another $10 k perhaps its worth it.

I'd ship it. You are probably going to get low 40's for it. You need a car in Hawaii and I will bet the cost of replacing the car over there is far more than the cost of shipping vs. what you will get for it.

Just checked around for you - the going rate for shipping is around $1000 from Cali to Hawaii.

Should be able to fetch 40K if it is in good shape with no stories.

I'd create a very thorough and complete 'for sale' docuemnt or dossier. history, mods, condition, pictures.

Then screen buyers carefully... the tire-kicking morons, who "aren't sure" and "need to sleep on it" are not the guys ready to buy...(the sad truth is that it takes many buyers a few lost opportunities for them to have their senses honed for The Deal)...you want them after they are educated.

At the right price, with the right history, you will find the buyer who recognizes the benefit of spending a few bucks more than manhiem auction for a car with documentation.

But this assumes your car has no stories, and documentation.

Finally, for 40k why would you NOT drive it in Hawaii???

+1. You are going to get hosed selling the car anyway. Take it with you. $1k to ship isn't that bad when compared to the loss you are going to take on the car anyway. It is probably worth the money to ship it and not deal with the "tire kickers." Even if you still want to sell it, I bet it will fetch more money on the islands since there are far fewer Porsches available there, so just take it with you. My $0.02

Agree completely. Unless, of course, the OP is looking to get a Cab 996TT for the islands .
