I've never seen a dipstick on a turbo before. Is it a aftermarket system or oem?

Turbos don't have a dipstick, only the NA 996s do. Neither do the GT3s nor the GT2s, afaik of course. Porsche got rid of it altogether on the whole 997 line.

If you'll permit me to give some social commentary (a rant, really) this is one of the worst facets of German engineering. To only provide an electronic mechanism for measuring something as vital to the function of the engine as oil which can only be measured AFTER already running the engine is so dumb. On top of this, that mechanism itself can (and, obviously in this case, does) fail. It's like requiring you to stick a wire into water to verify the power is turned off. I love my car, but failure modes have always been a real shortcoming of German engineered equipment.

They should have included a dipstick on the Turbos, GT3s and GT2s of the 996 series and also on the whole model line from the 997 series. In the air cooled cars the established wisdom is to trust the dipstick over the gauge. A little redundancy by adding an electronic means of measuring oil level is fine but not at the expense of the dipstick method imho. Specially since oil level is critical for our cars.

Dude...you have the car there, we are all thousands of miles away. How can we troubleshoot the car?!?!

You need to hook up a durametric and see what the temp sensor reading says- you need to trace the electrical wires, ohm them out..etc..etc/

Just tossing in a new sensor and wondering why it doesnt work is just crazy.

Now you suspect the DME? Why?

This is false information in regards to a 996TT, there is no dipstick, only the oil check in the instrument panel.

My apologies, I was unaware that the 996 turbos did not have a dipstick, I knew that they removed it on the 997, but thought it was standard across the 996 line... That is by far the most backward design decision I have seen in quite some time.

First time I read such a problem. I have looked into the wiring diagram without any success. But I wonder if the signal is not coming from the rate of turn sensor 996 606 145 00 (ouch : $809.50). Did you work in the center console lately? Or simply from the alarm tilt sensor located besides the battery......I am not sure....

I am sorry, I don't have the answer. This is what we call in the aviation a case of "shotgun troubleshooting"....You change parts until you hit the good one...I don't know if bad ECU programming can be a factor....

Rate of turn or yaw sensor : The yaw-rate sensor determines how far off-axis a car is "tilting" in a turn

It is part of the PSM... Good wake up call. It is not part of the GT2. But there is an hydraulic unit on the GT2 but seems there is no sensor?

Sorry about that gclasse we have to look somewhere else now,
