sounds like i have this same issue as of today. pushing the car hard testing my poor mans rwd w cardan shaft removed and suddenly have gear whine seemingly in 3/4th and i strongly suspect bearing failure(s) main shaft/pinion/thrust? bearing(s).. who knows.

looks like i'll be converting to genuine rwd w lsd for real soon after opening up my g'box! woo hoo an unanticipated winter/spring project. lucky me
