Help! Proving Depreciation/Value of a Tracked Car?
Need to prove to lawyers (for a divorce) that a tracked car is worth less than a Kelly Blue Book estimate. I have a 996TT with 30k miles of which 3k are tracked. My lawyer wants "proof" that this affects the value of the car. Any suggestions? TIA!
(BTW- I thought everyone just "knew" this fact) <sigh>

Lol, call our local dealer (aristocrat motors). They told the bank a local GT3 was not worth anything because it had been on the track. Probably because the owner did not have it serviced there.
You could always post it for sale, fully disclose that the car was tracked and show the lawyer all of the low ball offers you receive and then compare those offers to the asking prices of non-tracked 996TTs

The problem is he needs to be able to quantify the difference between a car that has been tracked compared to one that hasn't . It is not enough just to have a letter stating "it makes a difference" he needs hard numbers so he say the car is worth $$ not $$$ due to it being tracked.
He still needs actual offers to purchase the car or an appraisal to "prove" the value.
And my guess is that the dealership will not put anything in writing due to any possible liability that could arise.
IMHO
Or if the price is right, you could sell the car to me!

This could be a tough one. It depends whether the "value" of the car is defined by what someone will pay you for it, or what's listed as the KBB value. The former is the real value, but you can't prove that unless you actually sell the car. Before then, it's just theoretical. Unfortunately in your case, KBB doesn't have a factor for track miles, although they probably could if they wanted to.
As an aside, what do folks here think is a reasonable adjustment for track miles? 2, 3 or 5 to 1?
Good luck!

I suggest taking it to Carmax and getting rid of it. She can have half of the $10,000 they'd give you
Either that or sell it to one of your track buddies for next to nothing and buy it back after the dust settles.
