Screwed on wheels AGAIN??
Screwed on wheels AGAIN??
After the whole fiasco https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-must-see.html with my last wheel purchase I decided buying a new set would be the way to go. I bought a set of F14 wheels from Modbargains a while back. Being that they were brand new I would never think I would have any issues. Well, that is until yesterday when I started to hear my wheel wobbling while I was driving. I had the car towed to my house and upon inspection I found the holes were the lug bolts went through has been rounded out and severely damaged. I took one of the wheels to a near by tire shop and was told that the wrong lug bolts were supplied to me and that is what caused the damage.
The shop told me to find my receipts for the wheels and see what kind on lug bolts were shipped with the wheels. I guess there is a big difference between the ball seat and cone seated bolts. Turns out the wheels were sent with ball seat (THE WRONG KIND) as per the receipt. The tire shop informed me that the wheels were not safe as they are now since the seats are grounded out and oblong.
I have since contacted ModBargains and asked them to replace the wheels. Their reply was "we will ship you new lug nuts and they will seat the wheel just fine to the hub".
Please see pics below. And no, that taper is not factory. Looking at the wheels straight on you can see the holes are have been enlarged as well.
Thoughts?

What happened with the Kinesis wheel was bad luck, not your fault. What happened with $1,000 Chinese made wheels that don't fit the car, is your bad (sorry tough love here). I am a firm believer of you pay for what you get these days, I had the same wheels on my car for a short run.
The company you bought the wheels from should definitely replace the wheel and make things right, but IN MY OPINION those wheels are not meant for Porsche nor are they meant for high HP cars who push limits of every day driving past the drive to and from work. Just my $.02

My $.02... The hub-centric ring on the wheels will cause the wheel to be centered on the car where it should be. With the proper bolts properly seated, the wheels will remain firmly attached to the car and will not allow movement. I'm not sure what risk you are suggesting. It doesn't sound like a dangerous situation - not at all like driving with cracked wheels. If there is no hub-centric ring on the wheels - all bets are off.

The conical shape is now gone, replaced with mostly ball shape. So how would shipping you conical bolts work? Then THEY would have to eat away even more of the seat of the hole to form a new cone shape. Material is missing now and more will have to be taken out. Maybe there's lots of extra material, maybe there's not. Plus the bolts will extend another millimeter or so into the hub. Is there clearance? Are the seats still plenty thick?
All good questions. Good luck. And you might want to stay away from bargain based retailers from now on and go with mainline retailers who don't flinch when they make a mistake. Sure, they are more money, but aren't wheels generally the second largest purchase after the car itself?
You can always save money at the grocery store buying generics and store brands.

True !! you did get $crewed once by someone else then $crewed again....
Talk to Thatcher (abt cup) he is in Seattle, knows wheels, is a good guy, and has helped me out in the past.
Then again......you may just want to stick to stock rims....
I hope your problem gets solved. Mike from MB was always great with his customer service. Hopefully the new lugs will seat properly. If that one wheel does not sit properly after the lugs go back to MB and I'm sure they will figure out a way to get you a new wheel and keep your business. Its always a process when things go wrong. Best of luck man!
damm that sucks, I hope mod bargain makes this right seeing how they did ship the wrong bolts. On the bright side when you finally do get a set of wheels that you like (and work properly) you'll appreciate and love them that much more.
