3rd brake light removal

About to dismantle my standard decklid and fit the gt2 version.

So I don't break it , how do you remove the 3rd brake light ?

Also do the rubber bungs on the corners of the original decklid just unscrew ?

For a moment, I thought this was similar to a rear wiper thread . Post some pictures when you get the GT2 deck lid installed. Sounds like it's a cool mod.

You can find that in the owners manual.

Doesn't it mean GT2 and original TT bootlid sharing the same 3rd brake light?

Remove the plastic end tab. There is a slot - insert a small screwdriver into slot and turn it a 1/4 turn. (forgot which way) Gently pry the lens out and unplug the pigtail connection. Install is the reverse.

Have you actually done this successfully? I see the place where the screw driver goes into but I am afraid to crack the lens as I twist. It does NOT want to move.

I've done it and it was simple. No lens cracking and no problems. Maybe soak your screw for a while before trying to turn.

Yup. Just did this. Pop the end cover off and then rotate the inner piece with a screw driver.

OK, here's some pix

I messed up my rubber trim also, when I was installing the AeroKit loom for a fix spoiler solution to eliminate Spoiler Malfunction Light...

then, figured out that I goofed by taking the light out from under the lid...

It's in the owner's manual, like someone said.

Thanks very much for the photos. That is very good to know. It appears that the whole piece has to be replaced as I cannot get to the bulbs.

The whole light cost $106, so it's not cheap just to replace a bulb or the rubber trim...

However, the bulb is replaceable...

See attached...the bulb is #5 in the list, cost is $1.44
