The dealer just slit his own neck. Tell him to CPO the car or no deal. There are plenty of 996TT out there with better documentation even if they cost a bit more.

53 seconds?

3 ignitions per rev; 6183 type 2s is 2060 revs; at 7000 rpms thats 2/7th of a second or0.28sec... what am I missing?

Still, I'd probably walk...what is the current time on the motor, and when was the last type II logged?

A type II is the highest category on the 996TT...it can be 8k, no idea what caused it nor what latent damage may have been done.

Even if you buy a warranty, a claim can be denied due to overrevs- EVEN if they were there when you bought it.

The dealer is an independent one, not a franchised one. Last type 2 over rev was at <1 hour ago, so it was fairly recent, allegedly by a potential driver's overenthusiastic test drive. It's really too bad as this car is cosmetically almost without a fault.

This type 1 and type 2 overrev bantor is sort of funny. These cars are so overengineered...what happened to the day when we couldn't see these "overrevs"? We all could've owned cars in the past that have been POUNDED into the earth (and were no where NEAR as over engineered as these cars)...and we never knew it...bought them and enjoyed them...

Even just reading this topic its clear all is not right with the car, be it legit flashed induced type 2's or engine forced type 2's.
You should walk away IMHO.
Plenty more where that came from.

Yes, and there are some people who smoke cigarettes and live to 95...does that mean we should all be unconcerned with smoking?

It is a matter of risk.

The recent over-rev is an ABSOLUTE deal killer. If 10k miles had passed with nothing coming of it, fine- but less than an hour ago? Never, no way.
