It is interesting that they will be campaigning in LMP2 and not LMP1. I bet they found a major gap in the rules that would give them an edge over the LMP1 cars. The chief designer of the Audi R8 was pulled away from Audi by Porsche to design this 2006 car.
The big question is what engine will they use? 3.4L V8 or 2.0L Turbo???
I wonder if a set of Kumho's will make it on this car? They proved to be very quick and extremely tough at Sebring. Miracle Motorsports LMP2 triple stinted a set of Kumho's at Sebring with no drop in lap times!!

I doubt they have found a large gap in the rules. It would make more sense to move up to LMP2 and not LMP1 mostly to increase the demand of the prototype within existing customer base for cost purposes alone. Shawn they did talk about the GT1 "It will be the first purpose-built Porsche factory racecar since the 1998 Porsche 911 GT1." Btw I really have lost respect for PCNA after crying about the M3GTR, BMW found a loop hole and made the best of it. On a side not the R8 replacement will be out in soon and again own the competition.

BMW did not find a loophole. The rules were exploited and BMW made promises that were not fulfilled. Porsche's complaints only helped to expedite the inevitable.

I love Lemans...but I wish the cars looked more like the one's we can buy. That's why I love the GT1....not only did it kinda look like a 911, but a street version was also made. This car.....I don't think so.

Here's the info from the Porsche website. http://www3.us.porsche.com/motorsport/lmp2/en-us.htm I wonder what other vehicles this engine might find its way into.

Thats incredible, nothing makes me happier than seeing Porsche back in the game.
Maybe in the near future we will see technological advances fused into street cars from this new era of porsche racing.

LMP2 should (if the formula is mixed right) be just as fast as LMP1. It will be very interesting to see if Penske & Porsche get it right.
With all of the development and $$ I think they will have a very tough time against both the LMP1 and the LMP2 turbos ala Miracle Motorsports.
What tires will the Porsche be using? The Kumhos have been amazing on the MM car. Triple stint at Sebring! Insane...
