SPI E900 GTR vs. Protomotive 996 TT
SPI E900 GTR vs. Protomotive 996 TT
Hello everyone,
Today I got to meet up with a forum member that has a 996 TT built by Protomotive. This is Diveextreme's old car. He was running 1.5 bar which is about 830 rwhp (the car is converted to rwd).
Basically my thoughts after racing are as follows....
This car is indeed very fast, however, I feel that the lag at the initial hit of the race really hurt the Porsche. After multiple pulls, we agreed to no honking and just letting the Porsche take the hit to diminish the lag and focus more on what the cars are about as momentum builds. I was definitely surprised to see the GTR pulling away at higher speeds where there was no gear change and it was just power vs. power. I wasn't expecting that.
I sincerely feel that these cars are indeed much more closely matched up to one another than what the video portrays, and with a little driving practice from the owner, it will be a neck and neck race..
It was a pleasure to meet you, Brad, as you are a class act and very humble. It is refreshing to meet people like you as they seem to vanish by the day. I am very much looking forward to meeting up again for a rematch. Thanks for coming out.

Was the Porsche in the right gear and in pwr band? I know when I first was learning I had no idea about any of that stuff so would get creamed pretty hard but it was always driver learning issues.
Does not look or sound as the Pcar is in the right gear.

No disrespect but , but that video does not seem right or brad needs to get some driving lessons. it looks like hes trying to run you off 4 th gear at 45 mph.something is off ...and the numbers dont make sence.
cars have almost same power , and the gtr is heavier , flappy paddles or not , it looks like the porsche put in reverse , or you had a big rolling start.

That said; Fadi's GT-R is very fast and very consistent.

Brad and I will run again when I get back from a business trip, or heck, if he he wants to re-run after getting a few pointers from Scott and I, I wouldn't mind running them back tonight..
It was a pleasure meeting Fadi, not so fun watching him take off that fast. We were going to wait and run next month as I didn't have decent fuel to use. The fuel caused some misfiring when the boost exceeded 1.45 but I figured what the heck, limit the boost and let's just have some fun in Mexico. I mean, Scott's car trapped 147, 4.7 60-130. Fadi's trapped 143, 5.0 60-130 right?
Unfortunately, he's an excellent driver and I forgot to take my Geritol. We'll try it again in a month or so.

Brad - I was told that you were short-shifting at 7000 rpm vs 7800 rpm. Keep in mind that by ding that, you're losing around 80 rwhp and quite a bit of time under the curve. Also, your car has McKenzie high-rate valve springs and is made to be driven at high rpm. I typically shifted at 7,800-7,900.
I also recommend you have your turbo system pressure-tested to ensure there are no boost leaks. Boost-leaks are very, very common and will have a large impact on boost response. You should probably check the plugs and coils as well.
Lastly, when you put C16 in the tank, let the car get used to it before cranking up the boost. And when you do turn you the boost, turn it up incrementally to allow the ECU time to adapt. The car will properly adapt to a wide range of fuels given enough time. I actually ran 100 octane unleaded on the street at 1.5 BAR (yes, 1.5 BAR), 99% of the time and the car ran like a raped ape. I could hit 5.0-5.1 60-130 times consistently on that fuel/boost, even with 2-shifts involved.
Good luck!

I agree. I've also experienced that first hand with a pretty fast GTR here in socal. Thanks for sharing the vid you've got a quick ride.
Fadi , i understand but i dont see how lag would play an issue if your at the right rpms and right gear on a highway run... out of the dig yes... but on the highway i neevr have an issue with the 3076's i just make sure im at the right rpms and in the right gear and boost is instant.
regardless i will not take away from you what you , cuase a race is a race and its run what you brung.lol

Fadi's car is F'ing fast (as are all Switzer cars), but I think things will be much closer if the 996TT is at it's maximum potential.
Once I get my car back, I'll run my 93 octane tune against Peter's car at 1.5 BAR (900 rwhp). His car is running like a top since he has fresh plugs, new coils, and he gets the damn thing pressure tested everytime he gets the oil changed. His car and my 996TT were dead-heat runs at full boost when we used to run each other. My GT-R on 93 makes about the same power as Fadi's car (825'ish awhp), so we'll see how that goes.
I'm very proud to be a Switzer customer now, but I was also a long-time (and happy) Protomotive customer. I also still have a special place in my heart for that particular 996, so I'm a bit torn at the results.
