Life after k24/18g's....
Life after k24/18g's....
OK... so I have been thinking for the past few weeks/months about whether I should sell the car and start a new project or refresh it. Currently I have a Proto 24/18G setup with the following mods...
24/18g's
catless exhaust
5bar fpr
Blown 6 intercoolers
Bailey DV's
Evoms v-flow intake
Evoms Exhaust manifolds
lightweight flywheel
Spec stg3 clutch
I have now sitting in my garage and not yet installed... evoms upgraded y-pipe, larger throttle body and IPD plenum.
My thought process is the following....
1. throw in the Y-pipe, TB and Plenum, get the marski inlet hardpipes and larger injectors... retune and call it a day....
2. go to a blowthrough system with either 24/20's or GT30's...
3. Leave it as is and just enjoy it....
4. Sell the car and look for another project....
My question is what have other people done and if they would do it over again was it "worth it" I know I have spoken to a couple of guys with 24/18's and they say with the "18's" that the blow through system is not really worth it... and if I do do the blow through that 24/20's or larger is a must.....
I do not plan on building (rods, pistons etc) this engine and want to keep costs relatively low. ( I know .. it's a P-car..
)
I do love the car but wondering if the extra money I would spend on a GT build would be better spent on a different car/project.
I have read just about everythread comparing the performance of different turbo setups. I know what each can do. But I also noticed a trend amongst 996TT owners here where a few are either selling or toying with the idea. I do love the car but not sure if it's "wise" to keep dumping money into it in search of better performance numbers.....
Anyway.... what would the people on 6speed do?

I also have the K24/18g set up but kept the k16 IC's(Todd said a slightly larger IC would be nice but not required with the 18g), kept stock box but put in the bmc filter also run catless. After 3 years the mods have been bullet proof and I recently had a major svc done at 20k miles putting new fluid anywhere/everywhere the car has it, new plugs etc...
Also did a update flash on the 3 year newer version of the file for my car. Have not run race fuel yet but pump gas and 1.2 bar still feels strong. I myself have been looking at the 997tt but that would mean I have to sell my 08Cayeene tt which I love. For me getting rid of the turbo is really not an option any time soon. It sounds awsome, feels great and for what they seem to be fetching today it just seems like keeping it makes the most sense, could not replace it for that money with an equally impressive car imo.

alan, i did alot of setups and i went through the exact steps you list off spent alot of time and money and to come where i am and be happy .
first off dont sell the car if theres no reason to.
i went originally with 18g setup with 5 bar. then i upgraded to a full blow through setup injectors ic's etc.. then swaped out the 18 gs for 20gs ... then swapped out the 18s for markskis setup his hybrid 3076's his ic,s etc. and im finally happy...
the car hauls azz. she puts down 600 whp on pump 93 and over 700 on race easy.
i would do a blow through with markskis crazy hybrid 3076's

Get something a lil different like gt2 or gtr otherwise in suspect you'll be bored again soon.

do injectors, re tune, I actually have a second pump that will fit without the blow thru... the intake to turbos and call it a day... otherwise you will scrap those ICs, all the hoses, etc... ironically you keep going back and forth about this every year lol
Adrian did it... he listened to me... first day out at the road race track he came #1...
now that was worth it...

HI,I had the injectors done with my K24/18gs..Hope you have a good free flowing muffler set-up,that will help,as it did when I swapped mine out...Then,,I added the extra fuel pump and had it retuned ...It made a noticable seat in the pants difference...
