Finaly found pre-most ipod/mp3usb solution
I just bought this xcar link system which is a 15 minutes plug and play system for our Becker radios. Quality is excellent. You can connect usb, sd card and/or ipod. Link and some installed photos...
Here is the link to the type 5 model I have: http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.ph...4&cat=0&page=1

Yes it charges all ipods and iphones. It is super smart. But you must get the ipod version. Mine isn't. In my version you can connect ipod via aux headphone jack input. I just thought usb key is a sufficient solution for me. My ipod is filled with 120Gigs and I thought ipod is overkill for my type of journeys.

Install is dead easy. VW radio removal forks provided with the unit work for our Becker radio. You pull out the radio. Cable supplied with the unit slots into CD charger socket. You drop the cable down the opening behind the radio. Plug into unit insert usb or cradle your ipod and that’s it. Mind you there will be no song names on the Becker radio just tracks. Make sure you order model 5 which says BECKER on the box.
Once radio is out stick your hand in and you will find there is a opening that leads right down to backside of the footwell. Check my photo.

Hi,
Will it work with my 2001 996tt with Porsche PCM1 navigation unit ?
And are you limited to 5 or 6 playlists with 99 songs each ? Still a lot of music i know, but was wondering.
Also want to add the blue tooth adapter for my I-Phone 4.
Thanks,
George
