Been thinking about 16g for the past couple of years, just been to preoccupied to pull the trigger, plus the new clutching i would eventually need shortly after has also held me back. Money ,money ,money. That's why being able to upgrade it myself has always been tempting.

Wouldn't doubt it, what doesn't come from china these days.
On the 16's whether there billet or not, they seem like there either six or seven. Not sure if they change the hot side, nobody seems to take a pic of that.

The compressor wheels are changed and the compressor housing machined to suit

The turbine wheels are sometimes left alone, or sometimes slightly reshaped/lightened
The turbine wheels don't get changed at all

Are you saying a 16g wheel won't fit in a k16 housing without machining it? Or an 18g?

Are you sure about that? I'm not changing wheel size only blade pitch and design when moving from a 16 to a 16g. At least this is what I have been led to believe. Could me mistaken though, would like to hear from someone who has done this or has owned a set of 16 g's as there bill should state what work was done.

Various sources including EPL advocate using the water lines to save turbo charger life through cooling. The evoms GT660 kit with Tial turbos has them as optional but EPL requires they be installed with all of their Tial turbo kits. What type of cooling system problems can be caused by using water lines? Is it because of excess coolant volume needing to circulate or running hotter in general or neither? Are the stock K16 or K24 turbos cooled with water lines or just oil?

Earl is correct, the 16g wheels are larger than the K16 wheels

The fact that they both have 16 in the name is pure coincidence

K16 is Borg Warner
16g is Mitsubishi

If you swap the wheels, you need to maching the housing, and I 'think' the back plate too

The kid in the video didn't have to change his back plate as the 16g, 18g, 20g, wheels all have the same compressor exducer sizing

It's funny that the same so-called tuner also spent 2+ months working on a pair of K24 hybrids of mine, which he ultimately ended up stealing from me, because I sent them back to him to be refurbished and I never got them back.
Building a pair of turbos for a professional, including machining and balancing takes no longer than a day. Unfortunately, some people who'd like to think that they're pros (and who operate out of their living room) make loads of others believe that they're just as good as real businesses with 10 mechanics and 8 lifts, except that they're not, and when something goes wrong, they don't have anything to back themselves up financially either.

YMMV of course.

While I do expect that some of the more respected turners could rebuild most turbos, I bet most send them to blouch. And there is nothing wrong with that. I'm just do it itself type! How would I ever learn to do odd things like rebuild a turbo if I didn't try and succeed or try fail and try again. Problem is nobody well sell the billet wheel.
