Improve Braking with NEW Brembo 2pc Rotors for your 996TT

Improving upon the factory Porsche brake system is something that is not easy. Basic upgrades include pads, steel braided brake lines, and some good synthetic brake fluid. But without going to a full Brembo aftermarket brake kit, what else can you do?

Brembo has developed these OEM replacement 2 piece fully floating rotors for the stock brake caliper system. The Porsche brake system is very well balanced. However, for those that push their Porsche to the limit on the track or street, improving upon the brake rotors is one of the largest advancements in the brake system. These 330mm rotors are designed with racing in mind for those Porsche drivers who simply, want the best for their 4piston calipers. The engineering of these rotors comes from Brembo’s top level racing divisions. The same engineering goes into their brake kits as used in many professional racing vehicles. The drilled design and increase vanes of the rotor helps dissipate heat faster. These front rotors are done in drilled to match the OEM rear rotors for a seamless look.

The hats and rotors utilize the Patented McLaren floating hardware as pictured. The exclusive purpose of Brembo’s McLaren hardware is to mimic the function of a full floating disc while minimizing the noise that can become a nuisance on the street. While the McLaren hardware does an excellent job of completely reducing this noise, it would have been pointless to waste all of this engineering, testing, and effort on just one function when the full floating rotor serves many other important functions on its own. For the McLaren design, “anti-rattle” is only one of the functions. The hardware must be able to minimize the noise while still allowing the disc to properly float and achieve every additional benefit of a floating disc. The Brembo rotors are 100% Brembo made. These come directly from the Brembo factories with the utmost attention to detail, quality control, and R&D. No outsourcing or collaboration parts are done, so you can continually trust the Brembo brand.

The addition of these rotors offers an incredible reduction of unsprung and rotational weight. Each rotor saves you about 3lbs per corner! Rotational weight usually has a factor of 10, so that is almost 30lbs per side up front! The fully floating hardware allows the disks to seek a true center line for improved pedal feel and modulation in racing or hard driving conditions. With the quality of these Brembo rotors, it is virtually impossible to warp the rotors and gives even pad wear and rotor wear. Overall, these disks will last longer then the OEM units while giving premier braking performance.

Comparatively to the competition, the Brembo product uses superior materials, manufacturing processes, and the R&D with quality control that you can only expect from the Brembo name. Having first hand used other products on the track and street, Brembo has continually proven itself to be the best quality and have the proper performance level that high end Porsche drivers demand.

Vivid Racing has received a fresh batch of 10 sets. You can get more information and they are available on special here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/b...s-p-61037.html

These rotors fit Porsche 996TT/C4S 997C2S/4S 01-09 with 330mm rotors and 4piston calipers.

These are front only? Are there rears as well?

Brembo only did the front for 2 reasons...

1 - 70% or more of the cars braking is done up front. So the biggest advantage was to build a rotor up front and do it drilled to match the OEM rears.
2 - Cost, the rear sets available for the 997 Turbo are actually more expensive then the fronts. At the cost factor, you might go into a BBK instead.

However if you wanted to upgrade to 350mm rotors front and rear, you might want to check out this - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/v...-p-114218.html

I'm using Girodisc slotted 350 mm floating rotors front and rear. GT3 6-piston calipers (bought from Vivid) in the front, stock calipers in the rear with spacers (came with the Girodisc kit). I've had much better resistance to cracking on the slotted rotors than I had with OEM cross-drilled.

im using stoptech st-60's up front, and st-40s in the rear.
they are amazing at high speed, but SUCK in lower speeds. also the brake pedal feels mushy compared to a gt3, or cars with CCB's. I hade stainless steel lines, and motul racing fluid. same ****. my next car will have ceramics..just like my hero tim

A non 6-speeders. Gave Knighton full creative license on the car. A new fuel system and the car makes 1100whp.

This isn't really an apples to apples comparison on drilled vs. slotted discs. The big difference is the fact that the slotted discs are 2-piece floating vs. the drilled being 1-piece.

The cracking on a 1-piece drilled disc is typically only in the outer braking surface, the inner surface doesn't have as much of an issue. This is due to the fact that the outer surface is continuous and blends into the "hat" area of the disc. This area is cool in comparison to the hot braking surface which induces thermal stresses in the outer braking surface leading to cracking.

On a 2-piece floating disc that is drilled these stresses are no longer present, so the tendency to crack is dramatically reduced. Provided recommended brake pad materials are used of course. The heat input with some high-level racing friction materials can cause problems with some drilled discs.

I didn't say that I was comparing apples to apples, nor that I was comparing Girodiscs to the Brembo kit in the original post. The OP asked what people were using for brake upgrades, so I responded to that.

I was comparing the only two things I have direct experience with: OEM cross-drilled one-piece rotors and Girodisc slotted floating rotors, and the latter have worked out a lot better for me.
