Min treads for the track?

My rears (PS2s) are right at the wear bar -- only for the inside of the inner most tread of the right rear tire. All the other treads are above the wear bar. Is it still OK to do a HPDE track day on these tires (assume dry track)? No chords showing.

flip the tires and go have fun. They will be toast by the end of the track so have another set laying around.

Does that mean I don't need to worry about the inside/outside designation for the tires? Or are you just saying to just swap the right and left rears without remounting the tires. (Tires are non-directional but have inside/outside labels).

I would leave it like that it is and not flip them, if you want to take the risk of not finishing the track day due to tires. Especially on a high-in-turns slower track.

The 996TT factory setting has a negative camber for the rear wheels. The inside tire has more contact and more pressure driving straight. This is to make it stick better during cornering, but since most people drive it on streets mostly and usually a lot of straight line driving, the inside gets worn first.

If you are on a track you will be turning hard so the outside of the tire opposite to the turn side will have most pressure, so the outside has better tread. You should though keep an eye for appearance and feel.

If chords are showing don't even think about it because the tire might pop.
Since our cars have a lot of torque though, with hot tires accelerating hard you can finish the remaining thread within a few laps I assume.

"no cords showing" is the general rule. Check them frequently though.

IF they pass tech inspection run them as is. On the track you'll tear up the outer edges rather than the inner edges (that get worn out on the street due to negative camber).

Just drive and check the tires after EVERY session. And that means a thorough check, so jack the car up and spin the wheel and look for cords.

you may not pass the tech inspection. if it's a PCA event, they are very strict on that. i'd check the event rule. many require 4mm of thread.
