corvette invasion
Motor Trend magazine recently completed Hot Laps of Laguna Seca Raceway with 9 high-end sports cars. The results are a little surprising and very satisfying for Corvette owners.
The following are the fastest lap times for each vehicle:
~ Lotus Evola S ------------ 345 HP - 1 minute 42.49 seconds
~ Ford Boss Mustang 302 - 444 HP - 1 minute 41.06 seconds
~ Mercedes SLS AMG ------ 563 HP - 1minute 38.82 seconds
~ Porsche 911 GT3 RS ----- 450 HP - 1 minute 36.77 seconds
~ Audi R8 GT --------------- 560 HP - 1 minute 36.39 seconds
~ Lexus LFA ----------------- 552 HP - 1 minute 36.39 seconds
~ Nissan GT-R -------------- 530 HP - 1 minute 36.35 seconds
~ Ferrari Italia 458 --------- 557 HP - 1 minute 36.22 seconds
~ Corvette Z06, with Z07 -- 505 HP - 1 minute 34.43 seconds

I never understand the magazines. Why are they handicapping the Corvette and not running a ZR1?
A little embarrassing that the Z06 wins by what is a pretty big margin. Thrown in another hundred+ horsepower and a nice supercharge (ZR1) and it would really kick a$$.
Corvettes deserve some respect.

I don't see why it's even worth mentioning that a Corvette owner or two live on the same street. I have a Viper and Z06 on my street, and see Ferrari's, Lambo's and other Porsche's regularly. I like them all. Heck I even like to see the modded Mustang, EVO and STI cruising around the neighborhood.
Actually there is really nothing surprising there other than maybe the Italia being a little slower than expected? But not sure on the tires.

Nobody is hacking on the ultimate performance of the Corvette. The two fastest cars on Top Gear are an ACR Viper followed closely by a Corvette ZR1.
It's driving feel and refinement that are missing.

Funny though, I've raced off-road, MX, Endo's, Grand Prix, and Desert (as well as road, but not a the same level). Road bike (motor) racers and off-road road racers all get a long and totally appreciate what each of us put on the line every weekend...(our lives).
Why car people can't appreciate power and performance vs "value for the buck" which out performs "the lack of bucks invested" is beyond me. (if that makes sense???)
So yes, why can't we all get along. Power and performance VS money invested to obtain these goals. Corvettes & Viper's will always win this competition....this coming from a loving modified 09 TT owner.
"Go play in the rain and throw it all away"
