996t clutch squeak

Guys,

In the last week my clutch pedal has started to squeak in the last 1/3 of its travel i.e. just off the floor. The sound is coming from underneath the car and sounds like a dry bush. You can also feel a slight vibration through the pedal when the sound is present. My slave an accumilator have been replaced before but a little while ago.

What would anyone suggest as a way of testing what is going on, plus any other clues?

I've had this for a little while -- seems to come and go depending on the temperature and maybe other factors. I haven't noticed any change in clutch performance. I've had it checked at the shop and it's not coming from the slave/accumulator. They are guessing that it's coming from the bushings at the fork -- which I understand you need to drop the transmission to get to. If that's the case, it's probably just that it requires re-lubrication and/or cleaning due to dust or dirt. I've been advised to wait until I need a new clutch to deal with it. From what I've read and researched on this forum and elsewhere, it seems like a relatively common "quirk" of our cars.

How many miles are on your car or clutch?

Mine has the same quirk and pedal judder and I have been told that it is either the pressure plate or the fork. Like the previous poster said, the tranny needs to be dropped in order to fix it so I will do the clutch, pressure plate and throwout whilst the tranny is dropped.

The judder seems to get worse with higher RPM.

Interesting data point. For me, I notice it more when the car is not moving. Also, it's more noticed when I let the clutch pedal out slowly. Under normal driving conditions, I rarely notice this for my car.

Let me share with you my experience as detailed here

Mr. 19000rpm provided the most accurate diag for my case. After 2K miles, when the car and tranny are hot you can hear it loud and clear but so far clutch is holding just fine.

Good Luck,
-Arman

+1 got to make sure to lube the fork bearings and pin whenever clutch work is done on car.

Me three. 100% agree with the dry fork bushing posts and being more noticeable after it gets to temp.
