Get the one with the 8 year warranty. A few bucks more but more cranking amps.

I just went to Sears and bought the Die Hard International battery, unbolt your old battery and take it with you for good measure.

Good thread, one of many.

I like Auto Zone. Get the best they have for your car. More cranking amps and get the one with a 8 year.

Happy Thanks back to you... Had not heard about it.... nasty road if you don't know it, once you get a wheel on the shoulder you are hosed. I've actually been first on scene to one rollover and witnessed another. Family of four in one...all OK in the end.

Best!

If you can, go with an Interstate Battery. Replaced my other cars batteries with a good 'ol green Interstate and never looked back. Only battery my indy uses too.

I went through a similar thing with my 2004. It had an OEM Porsche battery that worked well enough and was most likely the original one that came on the car. Once I let the car sit for 2 or 3 weeks it was a goner. I charged it up and tried to keep it going a while (it worked okay but one could still tell it was shot). Later on I topped up the fluids on the battery to try and save it, and it went completely dead later that night.

I ended up putting in an Interstate battery, the H7 I believe. I'll double check next time I pop the hood.

I'm starting to think the charging system on the 996TT isn't up to the task. I bought a new battery when I bought the car 2 years ago (Optima). It was dead last month. I replaced the alternator - just to be sure and put in a new battery (Odyssey Extreme). I'm constantly looking at the volt meter to see how things are going. The car always charges first thing in the morning and reduces the charge as you drive for about 15 minutes - then it just maintains. I checked my new battery today (2 weeks after purchase) and the charge was indicating less than 50% capacity (using a commercial battery charger/tester). In another thread, I read that some people are recommending you charge the battery even if you are driving the car regularly. I'm starting to believe that. It's on the charger now...

I had the same symptoms when my old battery died. I also tried recharging it, but it didn't seem to help. I ended up buying a new one from Walmart because it was cheap and comes with a free replacement warranty. Walmart battery is still strong after about a year of use and starts the car right up after sitting idle for over a week at times without a trickle charger.

Sounds like the charging system is acting normally, just remember our cars have a pretty high key off volt draw.Cancelling the motion sensor when locking (double key fob press w/ horn report) lowers it by a lot,but a batt. tender is a good idea year round

I should have clarified...depends on what your usage will be. Daily driver or touring? versus track use/performance.

If you've gutted the interior, pulled the audio system, rear seats, etc, then surely worrying about battery weight is definitely a good idea.

I'm guessing you invested in Porsche Lithium battery for only $2400 or so?

Definitely an issue with the battery, you can most likely jump it but it likely wont take charge. I went to Costco for my last 2 vehicle batteries; my "snow" car has run for over 4 years now 3 winters in Salt Lake and one year in Phoenix. 15 minutes tops for a battery swap.

Slider - I think it's the nice audio system you installed in the other thread
Have you put a current clamp to it, may not be charging to spec?

the difference between biggest and small for me is following:

2400euro porsche lithium 18ah 13 lbs plus
129 Euro lightweight 20ah 15lbs
90 Euro 55ah 18lbs,
130Euro big 80ah 41lbs
