996TT trannny issues, pop out etc

Is it me or is there an abnormal amount of "tranny issue threads" over the last few months? Im in the market for a 996tt soon, but I may hold off and get a 997tt as this is begnning to make me more weary. Thoughts?

2nd gear popout isn't that big a deal unless your car does it. find one without the issue or one that has been repaired properly. better yet, just get the 997t.

If you're looking at a car that doesn't have 2nd gear pop out probs, then the car probably is fine in that regards. After being in service anywhere from 6 - 10 years this problem should have shown up by know. A good PPI will confirm its condition. On the grand scheme of things, probably 90% of 996TT owners (just guessing) aren't forum junkies and more than likely have no tranny problems whatsoever.

That being said, if money is no object buy a 997. Not because of a minority of 2nd gear pop outs, but because, in general, newer is better.

Jay don't let the stories of 2 nd gear pop out poop you out bro. It's an issue not on the majority of cars and as mentioned here if the car doesn't have it already it either never had it or it's been resolved by now... Don't let this issue be the thing to make you weary of the 996tt they are very reliable cars... Neithery turbo x50 nor my gt2 had the 2nd gear pop out and I only know of one guy in our area who had this ontheir turbo and had it resolved fairly easily...
