Viper vs Turbo another view
CJV - yes, as a matter of fact they did. The SRT-10 debuted in 2003 as a totally redesigned car....... very different than the old Vipers. GT3 level skid pad lateral acceleration, and breaking that rivals the Enzo. Still no where near a Turbo in fit/finish/comfort ect.. Not near as easy to drive or forgiving as the turbo, but a good sports car nonetheless.
The new Viper is MUCH better than the older ones. I also agree, that the Porsche is more comfortable, and much more civilised. But if you want pure power, the Viper with a few mods is very hard to beat!

I probably drive a lot of the same roads as you and don't use my Turbo as a DD, just occassional use. Due to lowering, wheels, color, wing, mods, etc. my Turbo draws attention like crazy. I'd imagine a Viper in any color would do the same. A stock Turbo around here is nothing special to most and if you relish/refrain from attention, let that also play a role. A stock Turbo is a Q-ship of high-level performance whereas a Viper says "look at me".
Two very different cars!! The Porsche is a very easy car to go very fast in. The Viper will make you look stupid if you don't respect the fact that there is none of the electronic aids you find in most cars these days.
Whe I first bought my Viper the most impressive thing that I noticed right away was how awsome the brakes were. The car has tons of grip but there is very little warning before it breaks loose. The runflat tires are a big reason for this. Easy fix though ...
Bottom line. The Viper is a BEAST. If I had to pick one it would be the Porsche, as it is more comfortable and makes a more practical daily driver. Fortunately I can have both.

The SRT handles better and stops better than the GT2.
I rarely drive it anymore. Funfactor and top down, I'd go with the Viper. Also lookswise, there is no comparison. Everyone and their grandmother stares at the Viper. THere is only one Viper. 996, 996TT, GT2, and Boxters for that matter look pretty close to each other. If you had ONE sportscar and drive daily, then go for the 996TT.

Go for the TT. I never settle for less just because of a "bargain". Close your eyes and imagine the car you've always wanted. Is that a TT or Viper? If you get the viper, you'll be back for a TT sooner or later.
