had the pleasure of tracking a 360 f1. Walked away thinking I would never want one. The sound was great but the rest of the package was seriously lacking.

I know 996 is faster. And i know 360 can be much more expensive to maintain. Has anybody experienced both cars?
I went out about a year and a half ago to buy a 360 Modena and came away disappointed. The car is amazing to look at. The Italians know how to make a car that looks and SOUNDS amazing. But the overall speed was not that great, and the build quality was questionable to say the least. I drove several examples, and this was a recurring theme. The lack luster performance of the 360 Modena is what pushed me back into the Porsche Twin Turbo world, actually.

The only thing that scares me even more the parts and maintenance on a Porsche Turbo is parts and maintenance on a Ferrari.

Me too. I was shopping for Ferrari 355s when I came to my senses and bought my turbo and the cost of maintenance was a huge waving flag. The 355 had known issues with valve seals leaking and needing replacement. Head work on a Ferrari is in the neighborhood of 996tt engine builds price wise. a 348 was also in consideration but was lacking I'm the performance department. They are a little cheaper to maintain, but not much. Especially when it comes time for a clutch and flywheel.

Well guys I have both the tt and a CS so I can give you some observations. The CS is far better to drive, super responsive think and you will be there. The 4 wd of the tt dulls the steering the solid feel cannot compare to the liveliness of the CS steering. Straight line speed the tt wins hands down ESP with mods. On a track it would be the CS. Porsches are cheaper to maintain but the CS is surprisingly robust. It would not be an ideal dd though. You will always get stared at in the Ferrari but much less in the tt and with that sound (to die for) you cannot be a wallflower
Hope this helps

True true but apart from handling all the other comments are valid for a regular 360.

I think the Challenge Stradale model of the 360 isn't a great comparison, especially due to the rarity and track biased nature of the car (it's a pretty special car). I could see a 360 CS being a cut above for sure.

I'm definitely interested in the continued comparisons of the 996TT with the standard 360 though, so thanks for all the responses as it's fun to follow along. I daydream of 360s pretty regularly, but talk myself out of them very quickly just based on the maintenance/service costs.

I own both a 996tt and a Ferrari 360. See this related thread: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...-opinions.html

To summarize, the Porsche is faster, much more torque, slams you in the seat more. It feels more like one solid block that can whip around corners if you want to drive it aggressive. Sounds good outside with Europipe Loud exhaust, not so fantastic inside (albiet little drone, just not exotic sounding) with windows up. The Ferrari is stunningly beautiful. The low, very wide stance and curves on the 360 are timeless and stunning. The sound (I have Tubi + test pipes (catless) are even better the the looks. The sound inside the cabin and outside is perfect. Zero drone, not too loud, not too quite, just perfect. The Ferrari has a much more comfortable chassis (again doesn't feel like a solid brick like the Porsche, doesnt' bounce around the same). Sport mode in the Ferrari firms it up a bit, but the steering still has a lighter feel to it. I'm not sure which steering feel I like better, they are just different. I'm also not sure which I could corner faster with, and for road driving, I don't really care. The Ferrari gets MUCH MUCH MUCH more attention than the Porsche. I get multiple comments everywhere I go in the Ferrari, people taking pics, cell phone videos, ect. Only enthusiasts generally comment on the Porsche. If it's nice outside and I'm going for a fun drive, I always reach for the Ferrari keys, no contest. It's just a more exciting drive and experience overall, even if I'm .6 seconds slower to 60. The Porsche is still fantatic fun too, but for me, just not as much. That said, keep in mind a 360 is also almost 2x the price of a 996tt, and has at least 2x as expensive maintenance as well.

Happy to answer anything specific. Both are fantastic cars, each with thier own stengths. I like both of them very much also becuase both are at the bottom of thier depreciation curve.

I've been meaning to get some pics of the two together, waiting for some sun. Will post some together pics when I can, but here's one of each:

This was a huge turn off for me. The 996TT just feels solid. The 360 is fast, but do not expect a visceral experience. The sound track on the 360 is absolutely amazing. The one I drove had a Tubi exhaust on it so it was almost orgasmic. As far as handling goes, I did not have much a chance to toss the 360 around, but I would venture to guess the 360 has a better suspension setup compared to a stock 996TT. Overall I was underwhelmed with the 360, but that does not mean it is a bad sports car. It just wasn't what I wanted. I am an old school Ferrari fan so when I buy it is going to be a pre power steering car. They are very capable and great track cars if you havce the $ to track it.

The car I drove was an F1 and I would not suggest buying an F1 due the 12k f1 pumps that tend to fail after a while. The things to look for on the 360 are cracks on the in the front wheel wells. Also get the car on a lift and check under the car for scrapes and dings. Many of the cheaper to middle of the price range 360s have been tracked hard. Those are the ones to be careful with.
Did you have sport mode on? It firms up the suspension and steering feel quite a bit, but the 360 was also designed with a lighter steering feel than a 996tt as well.

Unless you are a diehard stick shift fan, I'd highly recommend the F1. It's a lot of fun once you master it, BEAUTIFUL throttle blips on high rev downshifts in sport, perfect/fun punchs on high rev up shifts. Low and medium rev shifts in the 360 are a little slow, but it doesn't matter since if you are not shifting in the high rev band, you aren't after the speed then either. A 2002.5 TCU or CS TCU upgrade makes a big difference in F1 performance/longevity as well. I love the F1, it's a lot of fun and is perfect on Ferraris.

F1 pumps are like $1k now, and seem to last at least 20k miles (the new upgraded ones might last longer, especially with cooling fins). Belts can be done indy every 4 years for $1850 (just belts). Annual fluids is $900-$1k. Clutch is expensive, $5.2k at an indy shop every 20-30k miles driven depending how much stop/go you do and if you have the newer 2002.5 TCU which helps performance/longevity.

The 430'only makes 24 or so more bhp, may not be worth the additional premium, they all sound incredible!!!! Especially with a capristo, tubi, or nuvolare exhaust... They are not the mind blowing performance you get in a Porsche, the gt2 would chew them up and spit them out. BUT they are fine automobiles, peices of design art, the sound like beautiful music and are just purely bellisima!!!!
I really wanted the CS too. It's a tin can with an engine strapped on. Extremely loud inside and out, 20% stiffer than a 360, and perhaps the most fun Ferrari on the road of all time. That said, there are only like 5 CS's on sale at a time, many have seen tracks (watch out for $30k carbon brake jobs unless you want to switch to steel) and they command nearly a 90% premium over a 360. They are gaining collector/cult status, and I just couldnt' justify the price premium over the 360 (looks nearly identical) that I found. Carbon options make a big difference here. I'm sure the CS is more fun than my 360. Postive about it. But I'm not convinced it's nearly 2x as much fun and different of an experience, at least for my wallet.

The F430 has a LOT more torque than the 360 or CS, and you will notice it. That said, it's also very similar looking and similar overall expeirence to the 360 (sophisticated E diff for yahoo drivers and more power), but is again almost 90% premium with a steeper depreciation curve ahead of it. All are great cars, and if you can only have one car, I'd go CS or F430 depending if you want a race car on the street or a powerful sports cars (F430). For me, I'd rather have a 360 and 996tt for almost $20k less than what I could have just a F430 for.
