GT2 Inquiry

1) Is any one familiar with the 2002 GT2 w/ 8k miles at Sloan Cars?
2) Considering the RUF upgrade, is the asking price in the ball park?
Thanks

Do you have a link to the car's info?

Asking price?
Condition?
Mods?

OK. Here is the link:

http://sloancars.com/1939/2002-996-g...ack-8022-mile/

IMO, no it is not worth that asking price, unless you are just in love with it and have to have it, then it may be worth it only to you.

Everyone knows that mods do not transfer to the sale of your car, at least not at a decent percentage. It is basically money that is gone forever. Anyone that thinks they are going to get anywhere NEAR there modification costs recuped is in for a rude awakening. That money is just gone. Sometimes mods can even make your car, bike, ski, whatever, worth even less.

For MUCH less than that you can get a GREAT, well set up 2002 GT2!

True about mods... especially if a car is a "parts-hangar" hodge-podge of different stuff. A complete, correct conversion to a RUF vehicle may be somewhat of an exception, to the right buyer.

Sloan's cars are usually priced in the stratosphere, and I agree this one isn't probably worth the asking price... but it may wind up being somewhat close. A pristine 8k mile 996 GT2 is probably worth, what, $85-90k? If in addition it has $90k of documented RUF conversion receipts, Sloan seems to be pricing them at about 50% of original cost in the asking price. I doubt they'll get that, but they might get 20%... so maybe in the $105k range?

Yep. I agree with you. Sounds in the ballpark. There are some good deals out there on 2002 GT2's, much less than what you guessed. I got mine for much less. It may take them some time to realize they are never going to get that price, but someone at the right time and place may get a decent deal on it, after reality hits.

I think that price is out to lunch.

You could get a very very nice new model GT3 RS for that price or less and have way more car IMHO.

St louis motorsport had A 2002 GT2 on e-bay yesterday that they wanted 79g for buy it now.

Drive both back to back... You won't even want to look at the 997 GT2 after driing. Ruf modified one, trust me... Only car I've ever kept for so long in my life, and it sounds gt3 esque through the rev range, nothing like a turbo at all ! Just an intoxicating build and feel

I wanted a 997 GT2 and drove one at champion in fla... It was so soft and subdued!

Thanks for all the honest replies. It's my understanding that some Sloan cars are under consignment and, as such, are negotiable unless the owner isn't in need of funds.
I'm just getting back into the game after a 40 hiatus. Upon reading the Porsche ad, "This Car Will Do 144MPH Longer Than You Can", I purchased a new '69 911S which had to be sold several years later but not before driving it to see the '71 McQueen movie along with other Porsche club drivers. We perceived ourselves to be so cool back then.
In those days RUF was a name I associated with excellent German engineering and still do. I'm certain the names I've read on this forum, Switzer, Protomotive, etc., produce great machines but after reading many posts one item keeps popping up; the more aftermarket mods, the greater the chance of problems.
At my age, I'm interested in a car SIMILAR to the Sloan car. One that left the factory with that level of HP, is in a country gentleman's color, has not been on a track, and would be relatively trouble free. This would satisfy the last itch. If the search produces nothing, there's always RAC/Dallas for a new RUF.
Apologies for not contributing to the forum. I've been away too long and have nothing of interest to offer.

victim of the same period here. in addition to my tt ( can't really have a 917 can i? ) still have my flattrack 650cc triumph, my vintage mcqueen lemans pit crew jacket, and i blast every day on the back roads of agoura ca, where he and his pals used to. in '69 a 911s was about as cool as it got. well, the xke was no slouch, but.. yeah.

some guys never grow up
