Intro and dilemma
Intro and dilemma
I have been lurking the site for a while and finally decided to ask for some help. We picked up my 2001 Turbo (Guards Red/Black, 1 owner, 25k miles, all stock) earlier this month. Done couple of simple mods already like the clear signal lamps and fixing the auto dimming mirror issue. As the car came with non-hollow factory wheels, I wanted new wheels from the beginning. With great help from Dave at Wheel Enhancement, picked up the 18 inch HRE 567c wheels on Michelin PS2s (factory specs).
Put the wheels on yesterday and now here's my problem - I think I picked the wrong wheels for my color combo. The wheels are beautiful, strong, and light but IMO, something does not look right and I may have been better off with Silver wheels.
What do you think? Am i crazy? Not sure if I am able to return the wheels with a restocking fee. Anyone interested in buying with a serious discount
?

I'm not a fan of colored wheels I generally like the silver, period. But what you have there actually does look nice. I wonder if the wheels pick up a little of your black interior can't really tell in the picture...
I suggest waiting to hear what others say here before unloading them for a loss.
good luck

Hi , the wheels are fine and nothing wrong with them too many people use factory specs cause they don't want to make a mistakes , all you need is just a drop
lower the car and you will love it , H&R springs and wheels spacers (for an aggressive look) should do the work , my opinion

I am a big fan of the OEM wheel. I think your car looks great with them. Of all the aftermarket wheels I have seen, I have only liked 1 or 2 aftermarket wheels on the 996TT. I purchased a set of aftermarket wheels many years ago and tired of them after a few months and sold them, going back to OEM. I love the OEM twist wheels and the hollow spoke versions can be purchased used at a very fair price.

i think it's a very old school 930 look with the lip against the black wheel, red car. if that's what you're going for, then you got it, i'd say. they're nice wheels though, and they don't look "cheap", that's for sure. in fact, new ps2's on hre's is anything but cheap.

You are correct in thinking your car doesn't look right. I'll be honest and frank with my assessment.
You have a '70s or '80s look with those fat silver rims and small black centers. It makes the wheels look like 15" or 16" with 70 series high profile tires. They would look right on an '80 911 SC. They look wrong on a late '90s or newer car and wrong with a very low profile tire.
You want an all silver, all black or all red very open wheel. It will look right, show off the red calipers and look right with the 30 and 40 aspect ratio tires.
Your car looks better with the OE wheels by far. The Victor Innsbruck or Oz ultraleggera would look great as well.
I'm adding this: I don't want to sound harsh and abrasive and maybe I'm over reacting a bit, but I'm trying to make a point. The wheels you got are really nice, high end, good quality, etc. but they just don't look that good on your car. See if you can return or exchange them.
Welcome to the fold!

Nick - thanks for the honest assessment, this is exactly my though as well. Wish I could have seen the wheels on the car before purchase. I could have done a lot of other mods for the price I paid. Oh well, I learned and will know better next time. Thanks everyone.
Go back to stock for the time being and sell those wheels you currently bought. Look through some threads and get a better idea what fits these cars better, and your color combo better.
They are not bad looking...but the stocks look better to me. Everyone has their own tastes, so do what YOU believe looks good. I've seen stuff on here that is absolutely horrid, but it doesn't matter what I think.
The best look for me, would be 996 GT2 OEM wheels/tires (the ones I have on my car) or you can get away with putting some spacers on the 996T OEM ones. This is to make the car look more agressive and perfect from an angle view.
The only wheels I would rather have on my car: 19" TechArt Formulas (silver). But then I would have to drop the car and I don't want to mess with that just yet. Not sure they make 'em 18"...
