Windows Regulator Squeaking
Window Regulator Squeaking
I had my window regulator replaced last year because my passenger-side window would not roll down when opening/closing the door. A few weeks later my window began squeaking when rolling up and down. It would do it some days and then not on other days (possibly affected by weather).
It started to get worse and the window was rolling down much slower... I figured the window motor must have been going bad so I replaced it over the weekend but nothing was changed. This leads me to believe the regulator was either installed improperly or started to fail almost immediately. I would rather not pay someone to do the same job again... Would you think that the regulator may be good but just need adjusted or put on properly? I shouldn't have an issue going through the following write-up but don't want to waste money on another regulator if the one in there from a few months ago is still good.

Thanks for the advice. I wish I would have taken it back immediately after it started having the problem... I doubt they'll eat the labor/parts costs at this point. I've put too much money into this window already and their rates are too high at the shop I had it at.
Maybe if the part is bad, they'll take it back under warranty. I'll be pissed if I take it out and find out it's not an OEM Porsche part for what I was charged.

the real conundrum with this is that both the door latch mechanism can go bad ( also a 986 part ) causing the window to not fully lower or raise as the door is opened as it should. as well as the regualtor in the window. the problem you first described was the same in my car, and replacing the door latch mechanism solved it.
not to be confused by the crunching sound the window reg makes as its going bad..
as mine is now.

They showed me that the window had a lot of play and they could freely move the window a few inches up and down by just using their hand which told them it was the regulator. So I assume that was actually replaced. Before I could hear it trying to move the window down when opening the door but I guess the bad regulator left it too much play.

it's comforting to know there are only a few parts that can fail with the window and door electrics. it kinda narrows it down

sounds as if yours was the regulator.
My first thought when you said squeaking was the weather strip in the door. I assume you've confirmed that the sound is coming from inside and not the rubber?

Yeah, that was my first thought too. Sounds like glass on rubber. Doesn't look like there's anywhere it could be rubbing that bad.
