Really newbie question

thanks for reading...

Just bought home my new (to me) 996tt yesterday and murphy's law it is snowing here in Indiana. I bought a "battery tender plus" unit for trickle charge while it sits. I have to leave for three weeks starting next week so could sit for about 4-4.5 weeks.

My question is:

In the manual, it shows positive and neg terminal in the rear for jumping the car.

It also shows the battery is located in the front under a plastic cover.

Can I hook the tender to the rear terminals? I just want to be sure... those that have kids can relate on how nervous you were with your first.... this is my first sports car!

I have had mine direct to the battery for years with no problems. Hard wire it to battery and run the plug out by the wipers. Makes life easy.

I put a 20 ft extension on my charger (using 120 v lamp wire) and added a lighter socket plug. I just plug it in once a week to the lighter socket to top up the battery. That has worked very nicely for me. The wire just runs under the passenger door when the door is closed.

Congrats on your purchase! I lived in Fort Wayne for many years before moving to Colorado. I bought my 996 while I lived there (purchased out of state) and I bought my Cayenne at O'Daniel Porsche on Illinois Rd.

Owning a Porsche in Fort Wayne is fun because they are more of a rarity. Here in the Denver metro area, they're everywhere.

I never see other TTs out here. Granted, I am one of the few that drives it all year round

I see a few up in Evergreen now and again. Lots of C2s, and the occasional C4S. Boxsters and Cayennes are everywhere.

I drive my C4S all year too. I'm not saving it for the next guy!!!

You can definitely connect to the rear terminals.
That's where I connect up my trickle charger. No problems at all.

thanks guys for all the responses!! not sure what route I'm going to go with. I have a "battery tender plus" so I had to order the cig lighter adaptor and that will be here tomorrow.

Dennis C: Ya I haven't seen a 996T yet... I think a doctor in town has a GT3 but it is a rare day I see that even. Any recommendations on a indy dealer? I like the guys at O'daniel but pricing is outrageous as they are the only game in town. North Indianapolis is 2 hours away so not really a solution. Recommendations?

I never found a good indy when I lived there, so I was always forced to go to O'Daniel. I never had an issue with them. It was also very convenient for me because I lived in the SW part of town, not too far from them. To a certain extent, I guess I was lucky. The Cayenne was still under factory warranty when we lived there, so I never had any charges there. Everything I had done to the 996 was relatively minor.

I used to go to the 2nd Saturday breakfast meetings with the Fort Wayne PCA guys when I was there. That was always fun.
