New wheels and tires
SubscribeI am wanting to get rid of the wheel tire combo that came with my 01 996tt that also has pss10 installed. They are 19" Vellano and the car doesn't handle like it should, so I am wanting to go to 18" to get better ride height and alignment for track/street. I will also install at the same time sways, dog bone, and solid engine mounts. My question is that I am wanting to go 18"x12" rear for rear, but tire choice is very limited unless you get a more track dedicated tire. Any ideas for a tire choice? My wheel choice is OZ or HRE p40. The Ozs seem like a great deal. Anyone care to comment on the OZ wheel? Also my car is Guards red as per avatar. Too much to go to red wheel from OZ? I am probably going with black.
On another note, I have just had installed Speedtech's 3" catless exhaust, UMV tune, diverter valves, new sparks, new coils, and new maf. about a month ago and will post some comments on the whole package when I have the new wheels/tire combo to fully test the red beast.
Thx. in advance for any advice on tire wheel combo.

at the risk of being obvious, a new ps2 in 315/30/18 on a 12" wheel is a choice few would find fault with. given that you can find them fairly easily at nearly half of retail on ebay and elsewhere, that's what i do. i just shoed a new set of forgestar f14's in the gt2 fitment ( similar to the p40's in style and in weight at 1/4 the cost ) w new ps'2's and am always happy with them. i've gone with less expensive tire options before and won't again, unless i have to. with all that stuff you're doing, it'd be a shame to see hre p40's, with.. i dunno.. hankooks or something

If you're going with the OZ wheels, Tire Rack shows the same tire sizes for the 18X10 rears as for OEM 18X11. 295/30-18.Originally Posted by mikelane
Can't find ps2 for 12'' rim. It looks like I would have to move down to 11"
I just got the Ps2 in 315-30-18 from ebay. Paid 502 total. They are N2 and still newer than the ps2 on the car. Also just order OZ Allegritta in GT2 Size 8.5x18 and 12x18. Going with the 235-40 up front. The Gt size wheel comes with 40m front offset and 45m rear. Should fit good with no spacers. Also installing pss10 and will lower about 1inch or less.
Will post photos when all installed.
The GT2 clutch slave mod is on the list!

Mike... Go with 315/30. It's a perfect fit for the 12" wheel. And as n360rb has done, make sure your offsets are correct ( as above ) for the gt2 fitment. I went for a more aggressive offset 40mm front and rear, with fenders rolled no spacers.
It's the same ride I I had before on11's but I eliminated spacers. Thankfully.
Thx. for the replies!
02996ttx50>I like the sounds of your setup. Do You track your car? Are you at gt2 specs or lower? I think I missed something. How is your set up more aggressive if the OZ wheel comes with 40m front offset and 45 rears as n360rb says? Sorry, I might have missed something. At what point would I need to roll, and is it worth it?

i'm not sure at what point the rolling fenders is necessary but mine were done.. perhaps someone more knowledgeable will chime in to explain why that becomes necessary. it's a rub issue on the wider set, i'm sure. i'm by no means expert, but whatever the hell i've got going on is working. the 40mm front/rear i have are pretty close to gt2 spec also and my ride height and alignment are lowered and similar to gt2/x73, ( or ROW MO30 ) for a practical comparison.
i have not tracked my car, and that puts me in the minority with this car, as it was tweaked and maintained by people that do. i've got the faded calipers to prove it. sometimes i bring it to the shop and it's a little like going to a party and someone knew your wife from college

Going for sound... Go with a different one. I know first hand. Put on friends car and not much of a change from stock IMO.
What are you talking about? The speedtech exhaust? If so, trust me, it sounds a lot different than stockOriginally Posted by Lambert77655
