Removing Tequipment Roll Bar - DIY?

Thinking of removing the Tequipment/Eisenmann roll bar installed by the previous owner. Does anyone know how hard it is to remove the bar as a DIY? Anyone have instructions?

There are definitely threads but it is quite easy. Remove four mounting bolts on each seat, unplug electrical connections on bottom of seats, remove seats, remove four mounting bolts on roll bar, remove rollbar, reinstall rollbar mounting bolts for seat belts, plug in electrical connections, reinstall seats, and you are done. You may gave to remove the mirror which can be done by turning the base at the windshield. All of this can easily be done in a couple hours. You will need some torx drivers IIRC.

The above mirror removal procedure ONLY applies if you have the standard mirror. If you have the optional auto dimming mirror, DO NOT try to remove it by turning the base as advised above as you will destroy the mirror and the windshield both of which will set you back about $2K. To remove the auto dimming mirror you need to remove the two plastic half shell covers, carefully disconnect the electrical connector and then slide the mirror down out of it's mounting clip towards the dash right along the windshield. Be very careful to put even pressure on the mirror base as you slide the mirror out of its windshield mount so that you don't break the mirror mount. Wedging a flat screw driver on each side of the mirror clip and gently prying with it will help to get the mirror to start sliding out of its windshield mounting clip. It's actually very easy once you see how it's attached and takes only a couple of minutes. With the rearview mirror removed it makes the roll bar removal or installation a very simple one man procedure. It is also advisable to wrap the top of the roll bar with some foam to protect the windshield from accidental contact as it is very easy to break it.

Does anyone know what type of bit is be used to remove the 4 bolts of the seat? I tried a 10mm hex bit but that does not work to loosen the bolts.

You'll need whats referred to as a four square. Go to NAPA and look at VW tools.

use pm Sterling....be very careful to cover the console and door entries...also having another set of hands will help you to get it out of the car without doing any damage

You need the E12 torx socket. It is sold by Sears. I had to order it and they shipped it to my house in 3 days.
