Oil Failure indicator

So since I bought my car I've been getting a oil failure indicator every once and a while. The gauge drops to zero and then comes back up in a few seconds. I heard it was the pressure sensor. Well today on the way to work it came up again and didn't come back. After work it didn't come back either. I'm assuming I have oil pressure because it's running fine. So two questions, is this thing going to explode if I drive it until I get the part? and second how much of a pain is this thing to change?

I had this issue. Changed the sensor and still had a problem. After a lot of trouble shooting it ended up being my gauge cluster. What a pain in the ****. Hope you have better luck.

Not too bad to change, just awkward

trying to get a wrench on it. I removed the Y-Pipe and TB. If I ever need to do it again, I would probably remove the F-Hose and BPV's, since you can basically remove it easily as one piece.

It fixed my problem.

I had the same problem on my car. Took me about 2 hrs to replace the oil pressure sending unit, but that didn't help. Later my mechanic replaced the wire connector to the unit and that solved the problem. I think I paid about 1 hr of labor for that. Good luck!

Before changing, make sure the wires are SNUG, could just be a loose wire.

Is this thing a little gold looking canister with two connections on top behind the oil filter. Please say yes...because it looks like a wire popped off. Can I get that lucky?!

on the C4S you can get to it through the rear passenger tire well if you pull out all of the trim, I assume it is in a similar location on the turbo?

I had the same issue on my C4S, I pulled the wire connectors off of the pressure sending unit and sprayed everything with electronic contact cleaner, put it all back together and it has not been an issue since.

Item # 45 (mid top center of the page is the oil sensor)

Problem solved. I managed to get my hand back in there and reconnect the wire. Sure enough a wire had come loose and come off. Problem solved. The gauge looks much more normal now. Thanks guys!! People always say "check the wire" and it never is, this time I got lucky! I'm thrilled.

Same thing happened to me today. Guess I'll see if I can gain access to the wires and see if anything is loose.

Just happened to me as well. I immediately pulled over and checked my oil level which was fine. It cleared itself after a few minutes and hasn't come back, going to check the wires tonight.

Since this last post, the next day I got in there with a long screw driver and pushed down on the connector; it has been fine since until yesterday it happened again. It immediately cleared itself and back to 5bar pressure. I'm going to order the sender PN 996.606.203.00 just to be sure, appears an easy DIY and <$100. I'll post the details later.

Had the exact same problem. My mechanic ordered the part & he came back to say it was some loose screw. Has been fine for the last 2 weeks.

Mine goes off every once in a while - have the new part on the shelf - but looks like a total PITA to get in there unless engine is dropped.
