Higher number is softer and lower is firmer. I run mine on 4 front and 3 rear and it rides pretty decent. Used to run 3f 2r for a while but is not quite as compliant.

4 and 4 here and no longer have the front end bobbing that I had with higher number in front. I found tires played a HUGE part in the mix as well. Replaced my worn Cups with new Hankook V12s and it really made for a smooth ride- not too bad at track either. With the Cups it felt like the back end skipped sideways over any road cracks.
