Problems with seat memory-Somehow a tech working on my car programed the "key" memory

to my seat in a very uncomfortable position. I have successfully reprogrammed the "1" and "2" seat settings, but even though I have the key in the ignition at the time, the "key" seat setting wont retain the position I program in. Its super annoying because everytime I unlock the car the seat moves so far I have to correct it just to be able to depress the clutch. TIA

Side note: does anyone have a link to an old thread called "Things I never knew about my 996 turbo" or something along those lines? I believe it was a long thread full of little tricks and easter-eggs about our cars. Thanks again

I was under the assumption that the driver seat memory settings would save with the specific keys. When you say you successfully reprogrammed the 1 and 2 settings, you held down the memory button at the same time as the 1 and 2 buttons to save it to memory? I recall there is a button with the picture of the key on it as well, maybe try holding that down with the 1 and 2 to see if it will save to the key. I would pull out the manual but I don't have the book with me.

Thanks for the reply. There is indeed a key button next to the 1 and 2 buttons and its supposedly (according to the manual) programmed the same way as the 1 and 2 keys, but after I program it, it wont store the new position, as the 1 and 2 buttons did

I have the same problem. #1 button is programmed, #2 button is programmed but "key" button will not hold program. When I unlock car with remote, seat goes all the way back. Dealer said it is a programming issue and even they have to hook up their durametric and just play with it until they get it right. Not very reassuring that they can actually correct it so I have been just living with it. Please post if and how you get your corrected.

koolkat1973 is infamous around these parts
For those with memory seat feature, can you let me know whether the seat memory numbers are illuminated at nighttime. Mine does not - so I'm wondering if the memory unit itself is bad. Thanks.

Each remote can have a seat memory position assigned to it - up to 4 different keys.

To store the memory for a key - turn ignition on, set the seat position to what you want (put the car in reverse if you want the passenger mirror to move down when in reverse). Now, here is the trick - Press "M" first and hold while you then press the "Key" button at the same time.

The stored position should automatically be recalled whenever you unlock the door or trunk.

You can also clear the "Key" stored position by pressing the "Key" button and person 2 button simultaneously for at least 5 seconds.

You can test if the "Key" memory was set by pressing the "Key" button when in the car with the ignition on. If the seat moves, it must have been set. If the seat does not move - just move it a little and then press the "Key" button. If it still doesn't move, you have confirmed no memory was set.
