Need a radar detector for Toronto!

K well I'm getting sick of tickets.

Does anyone know what they use here in Toronto? If so what detectors work here?

Help!

YYZ

"X" Band radar and laser is used on all 400 series highways including the 407ETR which is one of the most patrolled roads I have ever seen.

Ontario Provincial Police and local regional police all have the Spectre detector detection units which really do work folks. I have contributed two Valentine V-1 units to the collection pile.

Like the guy on Hill Street Blues said....... "be careful out there."

What about an undetectable? I used to use one in Ontario for a long time.

I would love to know the answer to this question also...

If you install a Laser Jammer and a V1 but hide all the components so they are not in plain site can they search your car if they "think" you have a detector onboard?

How far can the police go if they suspect there is a radar detector or jammer in the car but cant find it?

It will be towed to a police location and dismantled until they find it...

Yikes.. Ok.. Scrap that idea.

I guess the only way to do it is have it in plain site and if they catch you just give it up...

Both times that my Valentine was confiscated I was not issued the accompanying offense notice which in Ontario is $175.00 if I am not mistaken. I guess the cops read AutoWeek or Car/Driver so they know how much they cost and feel sorry for the driver???

It sure would be nice to get back some sort of technological edge on these guys because it is getting much worse if you are an Ontario "speeder".

Someone should get a manufacturing company to make
fake detectors for cheap. Have a hidden real one and
a fake one on the dash to give them.
Otherwise, get a coordinated effort together to plant
detectors (or something cheaper that has the same RF
signature) in the trees along several major roads so the
detector detectors are always on. They won't know when
there is a real one...

Atta boy Joe. Let us know when the system is in place.

Hey Zippy...... don't you guys still have photo radar?? Isn't that the Conservatives that take your picture and pour your money into the Alberta Heritage Fund? Its okay though we've got Belinda in one of our local ridings and everyone knows who her Daddy is. Is that a great looking ChocoLab or a Chessie in your avatar?

I would vote for any party of any stripe that would allow detectors in Ontario. Take a good look at where radar traps are set up, it has 0 to do with safety and everything to do with revenue generation....we deserve a fighting chance.

I think the 2 detector idea is a good one- anyone ever tried this?

We have the photo. Major revenue generator, but no demerits. Now that we have no Provincial debt and are generating $$$ from oil revenues, mabye they can get rid of the photo thing. Belinda... what a flake! One minute she's running for the leadership of the right wing, the next she's sitting in the pink seats.

Avatar is my Choco lab. Have 2 yellows also.

We need to do a Canada meet someday.

Like the idea of the sacrificial winshield mounted detector. Think it would work?

I agree with the "dummy" detector idea.. so which one should I buy for actual use and which one will be the sacrifical one? Honestly its getting insane here, it was a holiday this past weekend and they gave out 1300 speeding tickets!!?? And they say its to do with safety? people were getting pulled for doing 130 in a 100 zone.. keeping with the flow of traffic..
