Gt2 slave mod or not??
Gt2 slave mod or not??
So I gatherred all my parts for the Gt2 slave mod. My car is at the shop getting bgiger Clutch/turbos/fuel/suspensoin/intercoolers etc etc....
My installer has been modding porsche for the good part of 20 years and he advised me NOT to do the GT2 mod. He told me that since I plan on somewhat daily driving my car, that its not a good idea.
I mentioned to him that I heard with the new clutch, my stock accumilator will be toast quick. His response was "They are cheap, and only take an hour to do".
He also mentioned that a 800whp 996tt that he's done before onyl went through 2 accumilators in 5 years.... That doesn't seem that bad to have a light feeling clutch.
What are your thoughts?

I recently drove a GT2 conversion car and I do not want, like driving an old Corvette, very heavy. Why make driving harder? I agree with your tech and have already changed my stock slave once, and will do it again when needed. I love the lightweight stock clutch.
just installed mine, i will say depends on the traffic, you DD inside the city bumper to bumper or some relaxed traffic ? in the city not a good idea, slightly better stock
Relaxed traffic also not the best/comfortable idea but significantly better over stock

Does he own a Porsche and daily drive it?
Probably not. Real owners are saying its worth it, myself included. Why replace something over and over again. You will.
Gt2 mod, done once never touched again.
Just my thoughts.

I had the mod for a number of years and on two different clutch assemblies. I have to say that the clutch assembly has a significant impact on how the clutch will feel.
The first clutch was terrible - the second was terrific and was very reasonable to modulate with the GT2 mod. You also have a much better feel for the engagement point..
Would I do it again? Yes, most definitely. BTW, my car was a DD for 5 years.

If you drive the car in a more aggressive manner or track the car, then yes it's worth it. If you're in there doing transmission work or a clutch replacement and have the money to spend on the parts and labor to get the job done it would be the best time most certainly.
If everything is working fine on your car and you do alot of city driving, it may just be best to leave well alone for the time being. Once it goes, and it likely will, definitely worth just swapping out to the GT2 bits and call it a day. The GT2 conversion is a bit heavier, but you do get used to it after a couple weeks of continuous driving.

Yes
I did my GT2 slave conversion and could not be happier. I hated the lack of "feel" in the pedal and the high release. With the GT2 slave delete the release/engagement point is not changed, but the feel is definitely better. I much prefer this in the drive around town world with stop and go driving.
It is true that the pedal pressure is much greater, which I noticed immediately, but then soon forgot. In other words, you totally get used to it and it is not so great as to tire one's left leg. It's fine. Really.
I would highly recommend it.

Porsche 911's always came non assisted until recently. The hydraulic assist is just another creature comfort advancement that numbs the driving experience. Being a long time Porsche 911 owner, I noticed the lack of feel immediately upon taking possession of my car when new and never liked the OEM clutch from day one. In fact, it was the only thing I initially didn't like about the 996TT. I disliked it so much, I had a GT2 conversion done before there was even a kit designed to do it - I could not find any information from anyone doing it before, so we tried the tapping the case method on the 996TT and it worked great.
My 996TT is my primary daily driver in the spring/summer/fall and I love the GT2 clutch.

ek9max - after reading up on this forum for quite some time, and only going by the advise from those guys who have actually had the conversion done, by far the majority love the upgrade. So at this moment, my car is at the tuner getting the conversion done. I'll let you know next Saturday my impression too.
