If I may.. What I think the op is stating that he is using the stock wye pipe. OP are you looking to run a 2.5" fabbed wye with blow off valves on it? you will still need thw map sensor but not the dv's. As far as I know maf less does not need to recirculate.

Intake above ICs... def a good idea if done right.. but you have to put the the dvs on the intercoolers....

nothing bothers me as long as it runs well... most if not all high HP cars from various tuners actually do it this way... 13" of travel from filter to turbo... 5 feet or more from OEM airbox and over a hot motor...
Bobby and I have doen countless of tests on our own cars since 2001... it works... that we know...

ebspeed is on a distinguished road
It's absolutely worth it, the stock system of uneven long tubes to the turbo's is not optimal. Markski's setup is the ticket, except I would use a couple of Tial BOV's vs the little diverter valves.

Some people worry about that, but when your on the highway it makes no diff . There so much air moving through has no where to go .regardless it's worth every bit .

So no I'm not worried at all . And as some one else said the most powerful porsches are running them also.

lol... Where has this thread gone? ok simple math puts a 900 crank hp car right around 1400 cfm. With that known there is 700 less cfm going over your intercooler plus the air filter is the way of the air flow. Also you removed the piece that completes the venture. I am sure your way (or proto's way) works but it is still a band aid for lack of a better way to do it. I am sure if you are doing some pulls in the street you will get heat soak.

do you have to be pulling down serious hp to go mafless?

is a boost controler a must at that point?

While I am no expert, I do agree. It may work but seems like a trade between faster spool and throttle response for an unknown amout of IC efficiently loss. In another thread about this a guy with supra that did similar set up said they found the air was pulled backward through the IC core because the intake suction was so strong. I'm just gonna do some conical K&N's on the turbo ins when I get to that point as I don't drive in the rain. But I'm labled a bench racer so that's just my .02 and maybe only worth .002

I have personally seen this setup heatsoak on the Dyno and drop every pull quiet a bit. I suppose to each his own.

I think mafless is the way to go but I would not block half of my intercooler with a huge filter. Intercoolers are already in bad spot here.

Would that clear the rear wheel/tire, though? I'm having a hard time picturing how it would, unless they were really small cones. Not giving you a hard time, just wondering.

EDIT: just peeked in the garage, I think if they were tilted inward, towards the headers, it might fit. Not sure how well it would work, however - seems like a ton of dirt and grit would get kicked onto them in no time...

If you check K&N'S website they have tons of shapes. But regarding real fitment I haven't done more than eye ball it. There are a few units I feel will work.

Grit and grime may be a real issue and I may need to have some sort of shielding. Or it may not work at all!! I expect guys with fender intakes are driving in rain to some degree and facing a similar challenge over time. I'm only driving about 2500-3000 miles a year so grit and grime I hope will be slow accumulation that diligent attention may cure....at least in my situation.
