Blew another MAF!

That's makes two in three weeks. Looks like another trip to the dealer. Maybe I should just buy them in bulk.

Hey MANA where do you go for service or for warranty (in case those are different)?

Also is that a Techart front spoiler II? Where did you get it?

Thanks.

How are you blowing the MAF? Unless you're pumping 10 volts or so through it, I can hardly believe how they could fry so quickly.

wross, I go to Stevenson on Broadway.

1999, It seems to be a fairly common problem with the bigger power.

Mana,

It's crazy. I have only gone through one. I believe if I started to lunch one every two weeks I would stronlgy consider Motec.

Are you using K&N air filters. Because of the oil, I went through 3 of them in 3 years. Finally the dealer just pulled my filter & put in a regular OEM unit.

Todd still has some fine tuning to do on my car to adjust for this altitude in Denver. I am hoping he can just tune it out. If not ... I will have to do something. I will not play the MAF a week game.

What does Motec have that can help??

What do you think caused your MAF to fail? I'm trying to figure out what makes this "a common problem with the higher HP cars".

There is no reason to blow a MAF simply because of HP. The voltage needs to be controlled in line. I am still on my original even tho I'm sucking in lots of oily air through the K&N. What are the readings on the MAF at WOT. Should be a simple fix.

MANA the reason you keep blowing the MAF is because you are moving to much air across it. The MAF housing needs to be enlarged. After that you can rescale the MAF with this device http://www.splitsec.com/products/psc1/PSC1003.htm

Increase MAF housing by 20%-30% and then enter the same value into the split second software. LTFT on your GIAC program should do the rest. Check on the dyno for correct WOT fuel ratios.

That's interesting. My MAF didn't go until I had the FVD aluminum intake plenum installed along with the new EVO air box. But if what you are saying is true, wouldn't several others be blowing MAFs???

You can get away from MAF.

Speed Density might be the only recourse.....or you can go ask the Supra guys to help you retrofit to their MAF. LOL

Would the combination of thin air, (6000ft above sea level), and big power have anything to do with it? Most of you guys are failry close to sea level and don't have to deal with this thin friggen air. I never had any problems with the MAF when I was GT750.

Need to know what your MAF reading is at WOT along with what the secondary O2 sensors are reading. The MAF reads MASS and not O2 and air pressure is a calculated figure from the settings of the chip and the voltage from the MAF. If the chip has not been programed to properly calculate barometric pressure, and therefore air density calculation, you are probably telling the computer that you have more O2 in the air than you actually have. This would cause you to run extremely rich. But 600 feet above sea level is not enough to effect the MAF. I am 700 feet and it was tuned at 1400 feet.

6,000 feet above sea level may very well effect it.
