996 tt Built motor - Intergear shaft

I am having my 996 TT motor built in Surrey UK, as my Intermediate gear/shaft had come loose. We got it out and all the bolts on the unit had come loose and had turned out of their position by about 3 to 4 mm. Luckily nothing had sheared.

So in goes a new item. I heard quite a few people have had to rebuild their engines just because these bolts came loose...and i don't want a repeat, even though at least it gave me a great excuse to the wife to upgrade .

Now some people are going with the GT3 item I understand, but this costs an obscene amount of money here in the UK, i.e thousands of dollars, apparently because it has a 959 part number (all 959 part numbers very expensive here).

I am thinking of getting a new 996 tt intergear unit and just loosening and refitting the bolts on that with loctite? Anybody else do another mod on it ?

Haven't done this mod but would like to ask you to describe the symptoms that led you to discover this problem. Thanks.

engine fully warmed up, in neutral (manual), blip throttle to 3k and let it come down, noisy rattling/ gearmeshing noise, which dissapears by idle. Happened suddenly on my 70k miles turbo. then inspect chain movement versus turning crank, noted large crank rotation before chain moved. full engine strip down, confirmed problem.

So at idle it didn't sound like the one in this video?

Was the noisy rattling coming down from 3k rpm louder or different sounding than the video?

Interesting, while I have heard of the bolts backing out on the gearshaft, I was under the impression it was extremely rare.

much louder, it was enough for people to turn heads
At idle mine made no unusual noise like in the video.
I was under the same impression, then it happens to my car and since I heard it is more common than at least i had thought....
