when my fuel pump went, it would start fine but the instant you throttled, the engine would die. idle ok, but die at throttle is how i'd describe a bad fuel pump. GL with it.

You might want to put a fuel pressure gauge on it and measure your fuel pressure.

When my pump went, the car would run for 1-2 seconds and shut off.

Fuel pressure test page 543 of the repair manual. It is the best way to found out or simply removing the pump....

jp, would you please post the page with the pressure test? I'm going in for some diagonstics to try and isolate my limp mode problem and testing the fuel pump would be a big help.

sounds like my fuel pump! if you still have the factory one anyway, you want to change. It's a problem waiting to happen due to design. I can post pictures of my factory one showing you the flaw if you need them

With pleasure Larry. First you have to get the gauge. The one I got is from Actron http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16173. A good thing about this gauge, it got a relief valve and line to depressurized the system after the test and a line goes into a bucket to prevent splashing the engine compartment.

Also you need the proper adaptor which in our case is the "Right Angle Large Shrader Adapter part#0180-000-1299". The 90' adaptor is very useful for access.

You just plug this gauge to the port beside the fuel filter in the engine compartment. This port got a cap (13mm wrench) and under a pressure relief valve. That is why you need that special adaptor.

When everything is hook up you just put the ignition on (without starting) and you should get 3.8 bars or 55 pounds.

Porsche mention to also check at idle. In that case with the engine running at idle the pressure goes down to 3.3 bars or 47.3 pounds.
