Sat Nav Problem

Hello all.
New to 6Speedonline.
Don't know where else to ask help.
I am from South Africa. Ever heard of the country? ... Shy smile..
6 Months ago I bought my 2001 996TT. I have the normal Sat Nav Screen (Flat Panel) plus a place for a CD to be inserted. I have no CD plus the local dealer told me that it does not work and only worked from the 2003 models onwards. I find it impossible to believe. Can anyone guide me to what to do or where to inquire or where to get a CD. I take it the CD contains the local map.
I have a place to insert a car (SIM card) for the phone as well and that does not work either. No card once again. Any guidance on this one as well?
Does anybody have a link for an online (pdf) user manual?
Thanks in advance.
Luke

Pretty sure there have been no Nav updates for a 2001 since 2002 or 2003. As for the phone, no clue, but suspect it was for an analog phone and no longer supported.

Not good news.

Not many people know much or you would have had more answers

In 2001 Porsche and the Nav manufacturer had a little disagreement. The Nav manufacturer took their toys and went home. The only way to get a Nav CD for that unit is to get a used original off Ebay. Even the dealers can't order a CD for the 01. I had to replace the whole unit with a Pioneer to get working Nav.

Wow, thanks for the info about the fallout. Do you perhaps know who the manufacturer was? Where did you get the info about the fallout?
Unfortunately Ebay will not be of a great help as I Live in South Africa and Ebay won't have Africa maps.
When you installed your Pioneer. Did you manage to keep all the other info that was on the flat screen in the console be fore removal?

There is no longer any communication between the ECU and the head unit. Warnings about open doors only appear on the centre speedo display now. I don't think anything else is missing.
