Shade Tree 3" Exhaust

Finally.... after months of waiting on my buddy (the welder) to free some time up, we got my exhaust done. its not the prettiest thing in the world and is a mix of TIG and MIG welds but it sounds pretty good i think. the TIG welds were my original desire but were just taking too long so we did some MIG to speed things along. Still need to come back and grind some MIG spots and do some polishing but you get the idea.

I collected the parts and did the measuring and cutting and he did the welding. With that said it did not seem to be a difficult thing to do at all, particularly the welding because i just stood there. Its 3 inch throughout with magna flow cats, vibrant mufflers and 4 inch tips exiting at an angle. i estimate it cost about $1000 with tax and shipping and that it took about a full day to complete. It drones some but less than my wife, so its by comparison tolerable!

Just need to decide between 18 billets and 16 billets now and plan on pump gas only ride!! I don't want rod bending power and expect a tiptronic rebuild with either turbo at some point. 997.2 IC's will be a likely choice but have thought about building some Bell 4.5's as i already have the end tanks made. My siemens 60# injectors should help with the fuel.

yeh tips were a bit of a last minute change. plenty of room to have them straight out. i would have preferred dual tips straight out but there are NO pre made options for that and we didn't want to spend the time on making some.

As long as you can get the welding done for free that's a cost-effective option, but otherwise you can buy one for the same price. Always good to see a DIY!

Those tips look terrible though... Either buy some tips or weld up some that come straight out.

If the tips were cut on an angle, parallel with the bumper cutouts, they'd be fine. But agree, as-is, they look pretty amateurish. Overall though, nice job, and if you enjoy it, that's what matters most.

Yes, cut the tips in an angle like the 997 GT2 ones.
