Can I Remove The Intake Manifolds With The Engine In The Car?
I'm part way through fixing the fault with my Knock Sensor wiring
I need to either remove the engine or remove the intake manifold to gain access to it
Is it possible to remove the intake manifold with the engine in the car?
And if so, is there a write up anywhere?
I've had a read through the workshop manual, but it says the engine has to come out?
What's the deal?

Well, you might be able, if all the planets are properly aligned and you have extra joints in your arms, but actually dropping the engine is much easier.
A second thought...no, you're not able to do that. There's some things you just can't reach.

If its bank 2 remove you A/C compressor and you will see the knock sensor, bank 1 you may need to remove the TB too to get down to it. I would unbolt the sensor and leave the clip hooked up, the harness is closer to the front of the motor (rear of the car) and will help you not lose the sensor and reinstall the new one. I think it will not be all that hard. there really is not much clutter around the knock sensors.

Could you have a look at this....

I've got the y-pipe, alternator, and f-hose off
I can see the Knock sensor, but can't get to it
There's no wires on the sensor at all, so I need to be careful not to lose it during removal
Let me know what you think

It looks unlikely to me that it can be done, but I know stranger things have happened
Personally I think it's an engine out job

Hope Tim can steer me right

Yeah, they're the ones
If I can get that thing off I think I can get straight to the Knock Sensor
If not I'll need to get a grabbing claw on it, which would help in removing the sensors connector, but would still leave reinstallation difficult

My local tech did mine, so I can't personally tell you how he did it. I know he did not lower the engine, but I probably would. I think he had more trouble getting them back on and seated then off. Be sure to boost leak test after! Have fun!

Thanks Tim
Decision made then, I'll leave the intake in place and try to remove the plug with it in place
I've got one of these
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...C=RV-040210605
I can grab the plug with it, but I can't remove it as the plug has a clip holding it in place
Would long nose pliers be any good or not?
Gonna leave this thread now as the decision has been made regarding the intake
I'll continue with the other thread though as that's to do with the sensor itself
Your help is appreciated Tim and very much welcomed - If you do post, can you put it in the sensor thread so I (and others) can see it all in one place
Thanks again everyone
