First gear,when do you switch?
Hi, i have not had my 03 x50 very long. When switching to second, Do you take the rpm's up to 5 or or do you switch earlier? Does taking the rpm up to 6 before switching to second, cause issues with the car's components.?
+1 assuming you mean everyday driving. I found this car (maybe just my car) doesn't like being short shifted.
If you're getting on it, I shift around 6k to make sure I don't hit the rev limiter because it happens so quickly.
I assume you aren't revving to 5k in normal street driving. If you are, then you are way more hardcore than me.
It totally depends on the conditions... if you are working your way up to 50 kph (30 mph) on a busy city street, then easy does it. If you are trying to rip the clothes off your girlfriend on an on-ramp, 6.5 K RPM is good.

3-3.5k in *normal* street driving seems optimal to me. it's funny, as i read this thread then went to the store real quick to see, and yeah, 5k in 1st is a bit too on the pipe for regular around town driving. getting on it, is of course another story. 1st is a gear i just want out of asap, so 3.5 k max is good ( for me ).
3000 -4000 feels right most of the time. And not stabbing the pedal to get to those numbers either, unless of course, it calls for it. First gear is used up so fast anyway, that second is itching for a wind up.

Until the engine is warmed up (coolant gauge up on 180 degrees) no more than 3 K revs in ANY gear. When engine is hot, 3-4 K revs in any gear as the power band / torque of the turbo can deal with anything you throw at it in a daily driving situation.
I usually get out of 1st as soon as possible (probably under 4K). First gear is really just there to get the car moving. 2nd gear seems to give me the real acceleration to push me back in my seat and get going

Same here although it doesn't feel like the car is ready to get out of 1st gear at that rpm LOL
I shift.
Even stock TTs rev so fast in 1st that you will outrun the tach. Shift at like 5900 when gunning it to prevent hitting the limiter at 6700. The tach will look like it's hitting the rev limiter about 500rpms low in first. Again that's just the engine outrunning the tach.
I have a very easy driving style when not going fast. Keep revs above 2300 and you'll be fine in most cruising situations except when climbing a hill.
