The endless oil change-one final problem

The on-board computer says, oil measurment not possible, engine not warmed up.

Before oil change it worked fine?

I'm praying this is not big deal. Gauge say 4 1/2 so at least it seems there is good pressure but I'd hate to rely just on that since I was guessing about how much oil to put in because I didn't drain the turbos

Help!!!!

have you tried allowing the engine to warm up to op temp? it may sound like a dumb question, but it's fair.

yep I let it go up 185 which is as hot as it usually gets, but it was nerve wracking since I don't know if I've got enough oil in there

I'm sure the oil light would come on if it's way low. The A/C trick should work.

Its hot here. AC was on. Does your gauge read 180 when engine fully warmed up?

Car needs to warm up, as long as you installed the correct amount of oil it should be OK to start and warm up the car.

In my case about 1/16¨ over the 180 mark and I can get the oil level check to work.... If you put over 7 quarts of oil you should not be worried and let it warmup to temp....

maybe I do need to just let it rip and see if that gets it up to temperature. I put about 7.5 quarts in but did not drain turbos. Seem about right?

My neighbor has a 05 boxster that measures oil cold. Seems like a better system. I guess they can predict expansion?

this APPARENT failure of on board computer makes me wonder how good boost numbers are!

Yes. Don't be afraid, if you put this amount of oil it is more than sufficient to provide proper lubrication...Let it warm up and you will trigger the oil level function....

The oil temp is not the same as the coolant temp. So be patient and let her warm up really good. 7.5 seems a little on the low side. I usually have to do 8.5 with the turbos, but don't get maybe 1/8 quart from the turbos... Regardless, you should be ok to let it warm up with 7.5 qts.

My car takes 10 minutes of driving to be warm enough to check the oil.

When I drained both plugs, I put 8.5 quarts of oil and that's about right. My car needs to be driven for at least 15 min before the oil gauge can read.

thanks guys!! you're right, I had to drive for 15 nerve wracking minutes, wondering if I had enough oil, before computer would register oil level. I prefer Boxster system which measures cold. No idea why they measure hot oil on 911tt?
