CB to talk to the truckers. They relay smokey hideouts on the radio. You can pick up a handheld at radioshack.

Lots of candy and soda.
Maybe one of those portable DVD players to have on the dash.
The Canon 1D Mark II if you spot a nice car.
Condoms.

For a recent road trip I put a heavy coat of Rejex on the front of the car and the windshield, and took along a big spray bottle of Griot's Speed Shine. Every evening a day's worth of bug splatter wiped right off.

Get a good map book or GPS. Lots of water and maybe some sunblock. Nice pair sunglasses. Lots of road music (not a fan of XM myself - I like my own songs)

Will you go the Canada route? If so, stop by Niagra Falls and Toronto if you have time.

Ditto on the rejex. I use Zaino but you get the idea. If you don't have clear bra... good luck on avoiding chips.

Michigan Roads are horrible ! I hope you don't have 19" wheels if going through Detroit. I managed to bend one on my BMW a while back... Why not fly instead? right into Kalamazoo International Airport.. I used to live in Kalamazo a few years back.. Enjoy!! hahaha
